First Annual Allakhazams Book Club!Follow

#1 Feb 04 2004 at 11:26 AM Rating: Excellent
Here is a list of posters who have said they would like to join and some I'm adding in because I want to.

Twiztid
Grimfar
Tare(sorry, no books about bananas)
Aadynn(Sorry, no "10,000 Jokes" books)
Angua
Merri
SelfishMan
Debalic(....nah, I guess poking you for smoking weed is getting old....though I bet you'd forgotten that I've been doing that haven't ya?)
Darkknight
Jophiel
Smasharoo (assuming we pick a 5000 page book, worthy of his genius)
MoebiusLord(Ok, you're allowed to read ahead, but no spoilers damn it!)
Totem(better known as: JiggyPuffDaddy, say his name!)
Smoggy(with the reading and theturningofthepageswiththe Ow!papercutsglavin)
tarv
Nadenu(that cat is cracking me up)
Khelios
Kaolian(if he can find time in between saving the world and writing the Whodunnit.../poke)
vanilabean
daffymantis
TheSentientOne
Kelti

Hmm, more than I thought.

Good.

Now. I'll make a whole different thread for what books we'll read. This one is for how we'll discuss it.

I'm leaning towards two "official" threads for book discussion a week. Of course, you are more than welcome to post a thread about it on your own for what ever reason. I'm thinking Monday and Thursday?

We may not even need "official" book threads. We can just decide on a book, read it, and post as we see fit. Seeing as how this is practically my first venture into books, I'm sure I'll have plenty of ideas and thoughts to share with you, and you all know I don't hesitate to tell you folks what's on my mind Smiley: wink2

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I'm thinking for Skeet's sake we start with Pat the Bunny

I think a weekly or bi-weekly thread is fine. Heck, could even make a seperate thread each week like the Weekend Updates in the EQ forum. "Steel Magnolias: Chapter 12 weigh in!"

At first I thought about having them in the SciFi/Fant forum but hell -- Alla should be damned happy we're doing something more constructive than the usual threads in OOT.

Would like to point this forum out, since it enjoys some traffic from posters not on this board.

I was thinking about that forum too, but we're not limiting our books to science fiction and fantasy.

Yeah, we'd need Pat the Bunny In Space or something Smiley: grin

How about a nice post in the SciFi forum inviting them to come read with us here?

AHA!!! But that would make too much sense, Illia. And besides, we really don't want all those "educated" people to critique the books we read. That would mean "intelligent" conversation, and I don't think the Queen will allow it.

On another note, I say we start with something I have already read, basically because I'm lazy. That, and when we get to the second-to-last chapter, I can just say stuff like, "well he dies anyways!", or something like "well it's not like they actually get together!" I just love to be a plot spoiler -=).

It's all going according to plan....

Ok ok.. I'll recruit some more.

Let me get some lunch first though.

By the way Jophiel, if you really want to get my attention, it'd have to be called "The adventures of Pat the Bunny, in space"

Sounds lame any other way.

Ooh ooh, does it have pictures?
#9 Feb 04 2004 at 12:55 PM Rating: Good
So let me get this straight. Someone chooses a book, and we all have to read it? You realize you'll have to give me at least two weeks notice, as our library here blows.

And what is this chapter a week thing and no reading ahead that I saw on the other thread? Are you kidding? I read several chapters a day, baby.

P.S. I don't read Westerns or hard core Fantasy. Or non-fiction. Or non-fiction westerns steeped in fantasy.

Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

Billy the Kid reached into his saddlebag and gathered together his lightning bolts. "That's the last time, Griffawn," he muttered, "the last time you disrespect my ranch." Smiley: laugh

Angua, you kill me!

Lol.

There will be a thread for suggestions. We can all post what we think would be interesting to read, and then we'll read what got the majority of the vote.

I'm in no way assuming everybody here will agree on one book, hopefully, we will find some books "the board" likes.

Grr, off to lunch now, stop detaining me!

Damn it, "Pat the Bunny" is not the lagomorph's name, it's a command. Feel Daddy's beard. Smell Mommy's perfume. Pat the bunny. For all intents and purposes, the animal's name is "The Bunny".

Christ, between this and the Heffalump thing, it's like having a literary circle in Romper Room.

I see Skeeter. i see Angua. I see Tare. I see Smasharoo...

Are we leaning towards any given genre to start with?

I posted over on the Science Fiction and fantasy forum, and am giving them a chance to read it and come over here before I start up the thread where we decide what we'll read.

This should be fun. And this is just the kick in the butt I need to start reading again. Didn't realize how much I missed it til we started talking about this.

How 'bout erotic novels? That'd get things off to a roaring start. Though I suppose it would be damn near impossible to enforce the 'no reading ahead' rule.

Then again, there's probably enough ************ around here already anyway.

How about post-apocalyptic fantasy horror detective mysteries in haiku style?

Hell, Smash probably has read all of those.

Nevermind, I give up.

Im in. Can we pick soon, like before 8ish?? I having date with all the stores in the mall, and could swing by one of the book stores and get the book, hopefully.
#23 Feb 04 2004 at 5:51 PM Rating: Excellent
I don't see why we couldn't.

That is if these slackers go to the thread for picking a book and decide already.

Hit refresh until you see the Official book club post. That's where we are picking the book.

How ya'll doing on reading?

Since the play is done I finally have time to finish "Me Talk Pretty One Day".

I plan to read his other books after this one.

Any suggested order? Not really important since I'll get to them eventually.

I thinking Barrel Fever or Naked next.

I'm finishing "Years of Salt and Rice," but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Git is reading something like that. I think it's called "Years of Rice and Beans".
