con-artist/s adviseryFollow

Now that there is so many people gathered around in towns we got the con-artists there. About 15mins ago, a naked galkan, lv1, in bastok, by the AH, by the name of Hawkzero comes up and asks me for 1343gil to buy a buddy a world pass. Seemed kind of an odd number, so I watched him he acts like he's running down the steps and at the bottom turns goes to the next set of steps over and comes up to the next AH window down from me; there's a well dressed war/nin there. After a few mins war/nin nods to guy and he runs off to his next victim. Asked the war/nin if he asked for 1343gil, says yes so I do a shout that this guy is conning people for gil for "a buddies world pass". I get a couple tells from random people who said he asks the same thing from them. Does this fall either under the old "Terms" or "New Terms" they just added as interfering with gameplay and/or would warrant a call to a GM? Or a call just because they are conning people?
I also have had a naked mithra, lv 1, in sandy ask me for a similar odd number of gil to buy a friend a world pass for the same LS as the galkan in bastok. It was late at the previous encounter with the mithra and I was too tired at the time to think anything of it. Does anyone know if there is anyway in game to find the leader of an LS? In other MMO's in the pass you've been able to search for a specific "guild" to file a complaint with a head personel of the "guild". I did not wish to actually post the name of the Ls or discredit this LS if they weren't actually a con-LS and these 2 were just bad seeds bringing them down. If anyone could give me some help with this problem I'd greatly appreciate it.
....thanx^^

yeah, this has been happening for as long as I played the game.

Some people make mules and pretend to be new players and beg for gil. They say things like "I just started and I can't afford X sword. Can you help me?" And in reality all they are doing is just begging like a common lowlife...

And they can make some good money pulling that scam.

Walk down any street in a major city and you'll probably experience the same thing. The difference is that most cities have enacted laws against this type of activity.

But unfortunately, GM's aren't cops and FFXI isn't the inner city. I am about 95% sure it isn't against the ToS. (Unless you can make the "player harassment" case work in favor of your argument.) I think a GM could possibly take action, but it would cetainly be at their discretion.

You got scammed plain and simple. Sorry bro.

If you have screenshots taken, I wouldn't mind you post the name of the person behind this. This serves as a way to disencourage others pulling off the same trick. Nothing beats a Hall of Shame :P

Beggers and con-artists make up the rich tapestry that is Vana'diel. I just don't see what is so hard about completly ignoring them or saying no? Someone asks for gil, should you call a GM? Damn man, what kind of question is that, say no and laugh at them. Come on, just about any peice of equipment from levels 1-10 that isn't +1 will cost you about 2x stacks of crystals. That will take about 20/30 minutes to get. Inform them of this if laughing at the poor isn't your style.

If you want to find out the leader or even if it's a real linkshell, just go to the linkshell community web page and search for it. The leader would most likely be to one with managerial rights. You might find the linkshell on it and find out it's only one person.
