Hello Cerberus:
I really want a Dragon Mail+1 for my Drg, I have all the other +1 pieces and need this to complete my set. I want this just for looks and to simply make me happy. I can never find the body piece up for sale except for some ******* who listed the price and raped it for 2million which it isn't even close to being worth. I've been searching for craftsmen to assemble me mine and none are confident of makeing a +1 I've seen the recipe:

Main Skill: Bonecraft (90 - Adept)
Sub-Skill: Smithing (41 - Apprentice)
Crystal: Earth
Ingredients: Nidhogg's Scales, Wyvern Scales x3, Darksteel Chain, Darksteel Sheet, Silver Thread, Leather Vest
Result: Dragon Mail +1

So I would like a Nidhogg's Scale please. If I find a scale I at least want this item to *try* for the HQ, if not I already have a normal Dragon Scale in reserve. If anyone has Nidhogg's Scales and would like to sell me one, I'll offer a simple 200k for them. I've heard rumors that this recipe doesn't work, but no one is 100% sure, I'll blow 200k to try to prove this since if the recipe doesn't work that means the item is currently 100% useless which I don't believe SE would do.

Only 3 scales have ever been listed on any AHs on Cerberus, all in jeuno, each sold for 100k. The last one sold was in december of '05 which I missed buying myself by a day *sigh*. So I repeat if you have Nidhogg's Scales or shall be going to fight him yourself and recieve the drop, please contact me ingame or through this site about it if you would be willing to sell it to me.

PS: Any BoneCrafters with 100+3 skill and preferably a 50-60 Smithing Sub are reading this post and would like to assemble the armor for me, I will be provideing all the ingredients, I'll pay 400k for a successfull HQ, in the off chance a NQ is obtained I'll pay 150k for it, in the freak instance of a Failure...well I would have lost up to 390k in materials so I won't be happy. So if you have the means to assemble it for me we can arrange a time to meet that offers the optimal chances of HQ (as backup) and for extremely minimal work you can make some gil. Thankyou for your time

it may be an increased difficulty at obtaining the scales or a higher demand than supply... either way, it will sufficiently knock up the price of the scales... which is why the only +1 may be incredibly expensive... it's expensive to even attempt the synth let alone take profit loss if you only NQ... so when the HQ actually does happen, one has to put it up on AH for nearly 10x the cost to make it just to barely come ahead in the deal (unless they're lucky and get a HQ right off).

Good luck to you... sadly, I can't help... but being a lvl 73 clothcrafter and having made a couple vermillion's cloaks, red capes (or trying for red cape +1 at least) and combat caster's +2 gear... I can understand this concept a little better. People often see my V cloak signed by myself and ask me if I can make them one cause they don't want to spend 14 mil on AH... Heh, sorry, each cloth is 4.5-5 mil... that's 13.5-15 mil to make the cloak... if you don't want to spend the 14 mil, I can't help you... some people just think that "oh, it's craftable, so you can probably make it cheaper than it would cost to buy." Which would hold true if the materials were easily obtainable... However, if that were the case, the synth'd item would not cost soo much gil. Keep in mind that cost of items that can be crafted, and cannot be obtained thru a mob drop, tend to be more expensive cause the materials are necessary for the item to exist... therefore such materials usually cost a bit more than sanity...

Also, just a lil note... according to the Nidhogg's Scale page, the synth using the Nidhogg's Scales will HQ or fail... no NQ applicable. There's a synth for NQ or HQ... but according to that page, it sounds like the Nidhogg's Scale synth forces the HQ mail or no result at all... thought you'd might like to know there's still another way to go about trying to obtain the HQ without getting these scales... tho if you get your hands on the scales, this seems like your best bet at a HQ.

Supposedly the Recipe:
Main Skill: Bonecraft (90 - Adept)
Sub-Skill: Smithing (41 - Apprentice)
Crystal: Earth
Ingredients: Nidhogg's Scales, Wyvern Scales x3, Darksteel Chain, Darksteel Sheet, Silver Thread, Leather Vest
Result: Dragon Mail +1
Forces an HQ if successfull or simply breaks. The normal recipe which can result in NQ, HQ or of course failure is:
Main Skill: Bonecraft (90 - Adept)
Sub-Skill: Smithing (41 - Apprentice)
Crystal: Earth
Ingredients: Dragon Scales, Wyvern Scales x3, Darksteel Chain, Darksteel Sheet, Silver Thread, Leather Vest
Result: NQ: Dragon Mail, HQ: Dragon Mail +1

The real reason is that the armor isn't that great and the +1 version only appeals to a few collectors (High lvl Drgs or those with free manaquiens) who enjoy its really unique looks( It looks like the God armor set titled Crimson, but this set is pitch black with silver trim). All craftsman opt to do the normal recipe because they wish to make the NQ version that is a recipe in creating the Wrymal Abjuration armor, the Crimson set. Few people who accidentally create a +1 version of the armor have an extremely small market in who would actually want the armor. I have collected all the ingredients for the normal recipe but as as it being a lvl90 recipe the chances of even a maxed crafter getting an HQ normally is low. For the normal recipe and current server prices it cost me 290k to assemble the ingredients. I hope to buy Nidhogg's Scales from someone for 100-200k.

As to the "supply & demand" issue that really isn't the issue. As of this moment the one and only use of Nidhogg's Scales is in this recipe and since the armor isn't that highly sought after and its stats not that fantastic I am told that the scale is actually thrown away constantly by HNMLSs. Some other players who I have contacted (5 so far) that own scales won't sell them because they are holding them in storage untill *they hope* SE finds a new use for them and they can sell them for a great profit. I'm posting to hopefully catch someones attention to the fact that I'm looking and would like this commonly considered "useless" item.

It is a matter of price. If you are willing to pay, I think they will sell. It may not come cheap, but I think with good money, you can convince a LS to sell.

It costs to get the best stuff in this game... it is like that since the first day. You should go to Adamatoise, Dragon Aery, and KB camp and see all the monks making offers for black belt items ; ;

Off Topic:

I actually have a solication myself... Not sure if it doable one >.>

I am seeking to buy the lotting rights of Aquarian Abjuration: Hands (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=4958) dropped by Genbu and Fafnir. Not sure how often it drops (but Genbu is regularly killed at least 5 times everyday but NA and JP LSs), but considering where I am right now in the game, it will take a long time for me to aquire it through my LS (at least a 3 month wait unless very lucky). Price negotiable -- let's start the dicussion at 2.5 million.
