Here is how I see it. SE doesnt answer emails and even with phone calls they wont answer your questions either as I called them and all they would put on was a technician when I asked for a different department. Why buy additional expansion from a company who purposely refuses to answer our questions or fix ***** ups from people who dont even play. I am a lev 75 bst so I dont need to worry about lev up but a lot of others do. SE could care less about any of us. I mean us all. They allow gil sellers to stay on the servers so why spend more money on their dam game. PLEASE REFUSE TO BUY EXPANSION PACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We must all stick together on this to give them a message.
As said before (I am not going to search back through pages and pages of Expansion information) There will be new soloing Options in the expansion, whether this be a job, questing or special XP areas is yet to be seen but yah, before we go on a Witchhunt on the new expansion, lets see what secrets it still has to offer before we make judgements on it.
Also, SE has been quite responsive to all contacts in regards to Bst, they just aren't going to break it again so it appears they don't "care" when really they aren't catering to 5% of a server population.
I respect the Bst job and I know it got dealt a blow to its more popular playing style. I understand this upset people, change rarely makes people happy but in the end, SE did it for a reason, I have a distinct feeling this coming expansion will make that reason come full circle.

Though I'm behind BST's 100% in this 'lets hate the update thing' as it clearly makes no sense what so ever, I'm not indulged to not buy the expansion over this. I will however do like I always do with expansions and take forever to get it, like I did with CoP =P.

In the past BST solo'd because, well, they HAD to. They wern't welcome in XP, since their pets would kill XP. They could still party as a frontline combat type, with an A rank in axe, high STR and VIT. They were solid DD (easily on par with a DRG without his wyvern). Again, an unpopular choice.
But now BST can live to their full potential in a party, without getting an XP penalty. That damn crab they have terrifies me with its damage output, and their "stand-alone" durability they have grown accustomed to makes them great backup tanks and first vokers.
For those who played the job for the solo "freedom"... SE is adding solo content for all players in this expansion, as well as expanding on the NPC partner capabilities every update.
If you are playing an MMORPG and you prefer to solo, then the new expansion should appeal to you. Plus SE is adding more functionality to the NPC partner every few months so all players are getting more solo options.
We have a BST in our LS (lvl 74 I think) and like all BST he was upset with this change, but he is trying to make the most of it. In ballista he has easily proven himself equal to most other DD or any other job in 1-on-1 combat (actually 2-on-1 if you count the damn crab).
It's sad that the "pokemon" days are over, but the solo aspect of BST is likely something SE never planned in the first place. The player community took that aspect and ran with it. I personally liked the idea, but sadly it was exploited by a few bad apples.
Gilsellers abused the job a fair bit (more so on other servers luckily) but we had our fair share of abusive BST players. Just think of how many times you were defending (or justifying) MPKs committed by Beastenmeister (sp?) members on these forums. Regardless of the reasons, GM calls were made over these and other MPKs, and SE got sick of it.
By the looks of things, BST is a minority group, and within that group was a smaller minority of abusive players. SE wanted to make things better for the FFXI community as a whole. In doing so they wiped out your solo prospects and changed BST to perform as the designers originally intended. A heavy DD with powerful and varied pet support in an XP party.
I had sympathy for BST initially, but these constant "I quit/I hate SE/Teach SE a lesson" threads are hurting BST support far more then helping. If you want to help your fellow BST, go and prove to other players how capable you are in your new role.

I for one will get the expansion, and probably love the expansion. After 75 is when the game begins imo, and these expansions just add on that. Every player who does the missions, (Zilart, CoP, whatever this new series will be called), has been rewarded for it 10 fold with access to new cool areas.
I wont give that up b/c a minority of the population thinks they were wronged. IMO take notes from Thud as Thornn said above. Hes adapting to this change and while we ive him alot of sh*t about it, everyone respects him more for dealing with it.
This reminds me of the RNG nerf when all you heard was, "Thats it, they killed my job, I quit." But RNG are still great on kited mobs and do good dmg still on par with most.
Start trying to adapt to the change instead of only complaining like some of yuor fellow BST's and youmay be surprised by the outcome.

The time to resolve the problem is past. People used BST to MPK. It was arguably the easiest job to MPK with. SE got tired of hearing about it. They solved the problem for us.
At least some of the player community felt that MPK'ing for revenge (primarily against accussed gil sellers) was justified. People sat around and said that SE never does anything about MPK, so we should just MPK the MPK'ers back. Ultimately, we have nobody to blame for this change but ourselves.
We took a useful game mechanic and turned into a way to grief other players.
But really, I think the BST community is overreacting. SE broke SMNs Earthen Ward ability in July and didn't fix it until October. You're just going to have to be patient. SE doesn't make even simple fixes overnight to game mechanics.

Wow great responce and a fully educated one at that I see. Quite honestly I find responces like this comeing from the regular fanboys. I especially find it interesting when you decide to tell another man what to do with his time and money. Give me the same responce and I will tell you to shove it I dont need usless opinions.
Here is the whole point to the problem. SE made an awesome game. It truely at one time was the greatest MMO ever created in my opinion. So what did they do? Nerf, nerf, nerf, nerf, nerf and now its one huge popularity contest that people put hours into with minimal challenge to it. Spare me the drama fanboys its more than the bst nerf. They have effected the way we make gil, NM drops, NM pops, job play, and the overal games reaction and environment. Its not the same game I started playing back when it came out for the PS2. Its turning into a kids game with a popularity contest for prom queen and prom king. So forgive us if a few of the old real hardcore players that played for the challenge of the game that have NEVER been frigging powerlvld and DID solo and learn every trick of the trade find this a little, well, idiotic.
Oh the solo options in the upcomeing update most likely for the NPC deal. As to why solo with bst its because we chose to not lfg for 3 hours a night to brag on how great our gear is we really liked the challenge of the game. So non bst have no idea what implecations that meant for those of us that did solo 68 of 72 levels like me and im willing to bet that very very very few of you ever did that.
SE does not respond to emails or phone calls, this is true. In short they have very poor customer service. I have recieved better tech suppor from microsoft and that is absolutely no lie.
