#1 Nov 28 2005 at 1:21 AM Rating: Good
I was in the market for a Kraken Club for a friend tonight and was shouting in Jeuno for one. I got a tell from ROWIN lvl60 DRK
he said he had one for 100 mill.... the deal was struck at 80 mill, when we went to trade he tried to give me a Shellbuster!
He tried this twice, He finally admitted he did NOT have the club. Buyers Beware!

I'll attest to this.

Neptunes is a friend of mine, she doesn't post here usually, but she's *not* a sock puppet.

I've never heard of this loser before word was spread on the LS about it, which was within 5 minutes of the attempted thievery.

I seen your shouts in Jeuno Nep, sorry to hear about this. At least you didn't lose the gil, add the name to the Blacklist.

The person I hadn't heard about was the attempted thief. IE, I do not know him and have no grudge against him from previous experiences.

Neptunes is a very good friend, and was acting as agent for another friend of ours in trying to get the club.

I was just trying to clarify that this is not a smear attempt, just a warning note to those who might do business with this person (Rowin).

I would like to vouch for the fact that Neptunes is not a sock puppet. I very briefly heard mention of Neptunes finding someone in Jeuno that was selling Kraken Club just before I logged off for the evening. Sorry to hear that it turned out this way.

Down with the Gil Takers! DOOOWWWN~~~~ >_>

The fact that it is a DRK 60 selling it should strike a warning bell... It is good that you are actually careful... if the story is true.

If you really want that club, I wish you luck. You may want to talk to a few HNM LS or BST LS leader for that. The reason why that is so expensive -- it is like the ulitmate Jueno showoff item, and it is a very hard drop from a NM.

Rowin being a good friend on mine, and a very honest one, I know he didn't do this. You failed, go take your petty grudges elsewhere.

Like I said, the only grudge there is against him is that he ummmmm tried to rip us off?

Which, yeah, tends to create a bit of a grudge. Kinda funny that way.

He did it. And admitted, when confronted, that he didn't have the item, that he was trying to rip us off.

If that means he's honest, well, I'd hate to meet a lying, cheating, thief, eh?

I'm saying that the whole thing never happened, and that you're creating the situation of him trying to rip him off to make him look bad.
#16 Nov 28 2005 at 4:35 PM Rating: Default
were you there? i didn't think so... listen you obviously don't know your friend well enough... ppl would go from being nice to dishonest for money, he thought he can get away with the shellbuster thats why he gave it a try. But its all in the past it dont matter he's labeled as a scam artist now get over it :)

Very well. While Neptunes isn't a sockpuppet, the fact of the matter is - there's still no evidence. So it's basically a your-word-against-theirs kind of deal.

Now, mind you, I'm not saying you're wrong or lying, nor am I saying that about Rowin. But all too often, we have people's reputations libeled on these forums with zero proof. So, all I'm saying is, without any proof, I'm wary to believe anyone.

If you have some screenshots or chatlogs to confirm this, then great! Post them, expose this person for who he(she?) really is. But if not, then I really don't think it's (yet) reasonable to jump on the forum and say these things.

"Evidence" also constitutes a large number of people who can undeniably back you up. It's not limited to screenshots. =3

I'm sure you can understand why I figured it was a sockpuppet though. One post, coming on the forum and saying someone tried to steal X item/XXX amount of gil from them? 1+1 is usually 2. Just not in this case, it seems. I acknowledge that Neptunes is not a sock puppet, and I apologize... but I personally haven't seen what's necessary to put Rowin on the chopping block quite yet.

basically what neptunes is trying to do is warn you about making gil transactions with this Rowin character, i appreciate being informed about shady characters cuz i wouldn't want someone to try to con me out of gil either.
#19 Nov 28 2005 at 10:14 PM Rating: Good
Sorry guys, Neptunes is nobly stepping forward to forewarn anyone who may be reading this. I doubt Neptunes intent was to drag anyone's name thru the mud or anything, but instead looking out for fellow players whom might be taken by such a trick.

This is not a new practice... infact, it's quite common. So why you'd get your panties in a twist over who did what or even who said who did what and why is beyond me.

Insect Wings are commonly scammed in place of Emp. Hairpin...

Leather or Lizard boots are commonly scammed in place of Leaping Boots...

The list can go on and on and on and on... if there's an underlying message in the OP it's not: "Look out for Rowin, he's a thf." but instead: "Anyone making a purchase thru trade windows, you should ALWAYS check the item the person is selling/trading you to make sure it's legit." I will be the first to admit that mention of specific names (especially in topic title) do not support this... but it would be wise and in the best interest of those on Cerberus to discard any names mentioned and take the fable to heart.

Now I'm usually the first to be sceptical about degrading posts on brand new account, but I happen to know Neptunes. Surprisingly enough, this new account has been created with his/her real ingame handle. So I'm sure Neptunes isn't picking a fight or intentionally trying to degrade someone's reputation. Instead just looking out for the wellbeing of the players of Cerberus.. If you took offense to Neptunes comment and related it to Rowin directly, I'm sorry... there's little hope of you seeing any other POV's than your own.. but I see this as a heads up and reminder to check the item your buying/trading in the trade window. Especially when you're not in Jeuno... cause think about it, why can't they put the item up in bazaar for XXX gil? If they're not in Jeuno, there's no tax and no difference. Except in the Bazaar, the name of the item is listed. In a trade window, the item is only listed if you select it (something some are too lazy and/or hastefull to bother doing).

*sigh*

neptunes decided a post was necessary to warn people of a possible scam artist. "hardcore" evidence is not available, so it is up to the audience to read this with a pinch of salt. those who know neptunes will know she has no reason to lie. those who don't can choose to ignore this warning made in good faith.

i do not know ronin. and while i know neptunes, and know her reputation, i have not taken it upon myself to judge ronin yet, till i have dealings with him (which i sincerely doubt).

note however that neptunes did NOT get "cheated" of her gil. with nothing lost, it would take quite a personality to accuse her of being a "sock-puppet". rather than whine and cry like others who were "cheated" of their gil, she at least had her wits about her (from her own account) and "live" to warn the rest. while i accept the challenge for "hardcore" evidence is a valid move, it seems a bit quick to call someone names, no? after all, it takes one to know one.

last i checked, speedly and gamblingkitty do not a ronin make. i'd rather ronin speak for himself, if he feels the need to challenge the claim. friends of ronin would do best to let him know what's here on the forums, no?

Geez someone comes to give a fair warning and it turns into a friggin trial with judge and jury. I know Nep and have known Nep for a long time. If Nep says it happened you can take it to the bank.

Sorry if my personality does not fit into the little square pegs of political correctness. So I say GUILTY! Thanks for the warning Nep I will keep an eye out.

Side note from the peanut gallery (this next statement has absolutely nothing to do with this post or any replys within the thread at all).... If it became politically correct for people to go back to slavery I really wonder how many people would swing with popular opinion rather than stick by whats actually right or wrong.

Posts like this are pointless.

There is always an argument as to which side was in the wrong, and no one reading gets the realy story anyway.

Next time, just blacklist them and let people decided for themselves, which they will probably do anyway. Chances are, it will get spread around in-game as much as it is here.... so leave it in game.

P.S. Who doesn't check their trades? Especialy for such a high class item. It's is a pretty lame attempt at theft, if you ask me.

I actually agree you should always be careful when accepting trade. If you got tricked that way before, you have to take certain blame of yourself for not being careful. Scammers always exists, but there is a reason that scamming actually works.
