And Decimus. I believe he is the only NA Monk to have most, if not all, of his AF2. I could be wrong.

Thorn, I just wanted to comment that the Black Belt is neither necessary or expected. The reason is that its seen as a luxury. Obtaining a Black Belt means you need to defeat several ground HNM's for items. The problem is that these HNM's are heavily camped. You could always make deals with linkshells that camp these things for the specific items but that can be a pain. As good as the Black belt is (and its REALLY good) I wouldnt knock any MNK that doesnt have it. Honestly ^^

Wryn, that was what I had been thinking too, up till the early 70s. You may be polite enough to not ask a monk why they dont have a blackbelt, but a lot of people arn't lol.

I have never seen anyone openly ask a mage where their noble tunic was, or why a 75 rng didnt have kirins osode for some odd reason... And both those items come from a popped NM that countless sky LS kill every week.

As you said, the blackbelt comes from beating the once a week pops of the ground gods, an if really lucky the normal quality ones can drop them too (Like a 1/10 chance it seems >.<). If your LS doesn't camp these regularly (and many dont due to notions that you need to bot/steal/mpk to get them) then you need to pay a lot of money for a chance to lot on them.

Sadly not every LS will sell them, either. Trying to buy the items is proving harder then winning the claim. I politely ask to buy it and am typically either ignored or given rude comments in return. Or if they are JP, any request for help will result in a simple "w" no matter how much effort you put into the auto-translator.

So I will keep trying for it, but not because its a luxury item to show off. If every other monk has one, who do you show it off to? A trophy item would be HQ +5 mind rings on a monk. One extra point of mind is maybe 10 damage added to a 1500 chi blast. Trivial.

This belt on the other hand offers a lot of bang for the buck ^^ It is a very significant upgrade and every monk I know pursues it as a "need" not a "want".

I'm a 75 monk on Cerberus, been there for a pretty good while now, and still don't have the black belt.

I've pretty much given up on it for the time being, I had enough gil saved up to buy the items at one point, but after trying to get a shot at buying the items and getting ignored countless times, I've just decided to put it on hold.

Would I love to have one... YES YES YES!!! but as the current situation stands, it seems it may never happen. >.<!

Also as a side note, I've never had anyone ask me where my black belt is, so I guess I'm lucky not to get hasseled in that respect.

Anyway, good luck to you Thornn, I hope you can obtain your belt, and if you do, please be kind enough to point me towards the people who were actually kind enough to acknowledge your requests and help you out. =D

the whole idea of wanting to track down other monks to form "bone parties" is disturbing..

been 75 mnk since feb 05, no black belt yet, never even seen behemoth, and only seen the turtle 3 times i think

is the black belt nice, sure

do i need a black belt?? meh... not really, HNM KS scene is mainly about chi blast, other than dynamis

i exp on monk once every month or two nowadays, i don't think i've even had my flag up for exp since march or april, i rarely solo/tank anything that i need the extra haste for, being that i have enough hitpoints to live through getting hit until i can recast

my LS doesn't really camp KB or aspi, or FF anymore for that matter, and why put my money in another LS's coffer, and likely, they either don't know me at all, or they have a grudge against my LS for any number of silly reasons

things like black belt, kirin's osode, genbu's kabuto, byakko's haidate, and all the rest are things your LS works together to get. if my LS feels that enough of our members would benefit from camping KB or w/e, then i might get black belt, otherwise i'm gonna work on my true hobby, max'ing my hp's, lol


and anyways, when i'm in jeuno, i usually pimp R/E gear that few people have gotten, fewer people actually keep, and nobody wears, some of the odder of which...

Could I make a plea to the shells that own the various NM to post to share info if you have a waiting list of monks in your shell needing it? Or if you expect to have them for sale?

I have tried asking members directly and get very mixed messages. Some are hostile, some rude, and some just dont know. I dont like the idea of sending /tells to busy HNM campers. I can dig up the info on my own but it involves a lot of harassment ^^

Aside from ground gods, if anyone is doing KS99 and dont have monks that need the items, please let me know. The rare/ex can be bought the same way. ^^

(PS Sorry if it seems I am a sellout for trying to buy these rare/ex quest items. Believe me I would much rather earn them then pay 1 mil each ^^. This is a hot topic in the mnk forums right now...)
