I was farming today in order to get new equipment, something that has become pretty routine. However, something disrupted that routine today, but not in a bad way. I'm killing quadav when I see in my chatbox that someone is cheering me on. I look to see who it is and it's a little taru in leather gear.

So, I search for the little guy's name and see a level 6 red mage, no sub. Then, he examines me. No big deal. I continue on. Later, I run into him again. He's with someone else and he proceeds to cast protect on me, even though after checking me he knows what level I am. (38 Red Mage, FYI.) That just makes me smile, I think I've run into new players maybe and cast protect 2 on the both of them amid /bows and /salutes.

This story isn't the focus, though, and I'm not trying to brag. (I'm only still low to mid-level.) No, my point is that afterwards, I just went on with my routine, never once saying anything. I didn't even say hello.

Spending so much time on my own getting things I need to level and not having social EXP parties has kind of dulled me because of how many people I pass by day to day, or compete with for the resources I need. I can't even be bothered to say hello?

What I did, I didn't realize until later, and I regretted the mistake. I passed up a potential friendship because I lost sight of why I started playing. The POL server is giving me grief right now, and I can't log in. Once I can log back in, I'm going to corrct my mistake provided I meet that player again.

I'm going to do that because I want to find out how new he is, and maybe have a little fun instead of working all the time!

<Edit> Spelling errors.

Very nice!!

Two nights ago, I was chocoing from Windy to Mhaura. Just after zoning into Tahrongi, there laid a poor lvl 9 WHM/none taru. I was in a bit of a hurry to meet an LS mate, but decided that a few extra minutes wouldn't hurt.

Jumped off my choco and R1 and chatted for a minute. Nothing too special, just some encouraging words and goodwill... then ran my butt to mhaura. But /befriended on my way^-

Friendships and relationships is what keeps the game fresh and fun. And helping new/other players makes those long hours I've spent XPing to reach a respectable level worth it.

I miss times like that.

It seems like everyone is so wrapped up in their own things that no one has time to talk anymore.

I spend most time talking now on POL or in the game. The best thing to do is not to allow others to schedule the game for you. Yes, there are things that happen in fixed time, but it is one's choice to farm, when to exp etc.
