I am currently on that mission (You wouldn't believe how long it took me to rise through the other 3 missions :p) and I was wondering what I should do in order to prepare to do this. I am aware that I will need a Paintbrush in order to get to the Den of Rancor. I have checked the Allakzam Mission info on this, but like the title says:Confusion. I am aware I will need an Uggalpeih (SP?) Key, is this for the paintbrush or something else? How do I obtain the paintbrush?
I am also aware I willo need Unlit Lamps from tonberries...now, this is where alittle confusion sets in, how many lamps from how many party members should there be? I am guessing this item is rare/ex so only one person can have one, but I have heard that the most you need is 4, but it can be done with less? Is it wise to do it with less, or make sure everyone will need it has it?
What is a wise party set-up for this? Is there a good lvl range? Should I wait or hurry up with the Zilart missions? I, being a WHM, will be DD (haha, another joke, trying to keep things light here, healer). So what else should the party have? I have heard it is best to sleep the BLM and SMN and focus on the THF, then simply take them out one-by-one. Is this a good strategy?
And finally, is there anyone else who needs this and/or wants to help? I will most likely need help in obtaining these items so if we both need them, we should work together then do this mission. Thank you {[/bow]}

To get the Painbrush, you need to get a Ugga Key. Then trade that to a door.
If you look at the Ugga Temple map on: http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/
They point out where to go. The #1 is where you come from Yhoator.
#2 is where you should go when going to the BCNM. Just take a left turn and you'll come to the Painbrush room.
In there, there are 3(?) bookshelfs, check those, then you'll get something, a key(?) then check the box on the table and you'll get your painbrush.
If you look at the second map. You enter from #3, after you have been out in Yhoator again and come in. Go to #2. ON the way there you have to go trough the Granite Door, wich a Guardian guards(Duh!), kill it to open the door.
I really dont know how to tell you the way in De of Rancor, since its really confusing map. But when you enter. Take a little left turn, and you'll see a whole in the ground. Jump down, and you'll be really close to the BCNM.
But also. Dont forget to get someone, i would prefer 2 people with lanterns, so light the torches. Let the other wait at the Ugga Temple entrance. Since there are aggro at the BCNM gate.
And a tip when you are doing a regular BCNM, or more then one Z4.
Let someone run out of the BCNM before its over, then that person can open the gates so you dont have to light the torches anymore.
WHen you exit from the BCNM you spawn at Map 2 where it says that you exit. After a short walk. From there you can walk back to the Guardian.
Your best bet is to invite someone who has already done this BCNM and got Torches, and have lit them before. Since its easy to get lost down there.
There isnt really a need to go to Sky until 70+. But, you can get awsome XP up there at 62(?)+.
The BCNM is very very easy, you can do with any level ranges.
One PT when i did it even had RNG tank... though he died 5 times in the BCNM.

Best place to farm lanterns is in Den or Rancor off of Tonberry Imprecators, watch out since they're BLMs, and make sure that you light the lantern at the right Altar (E-5 is the right one) or you're gonna have trouble unless you want to farm up another lantern.
The BC is easy, but make sure that everyone has low tonberry hate or the tank will get killed off easy, since unlike Everyone's Grudge, Everyone's Rancor adds up all the hate from everyone in the BC to the target (One time when I did this, Everyone's Rancor killed me near full HP since a member forgot to reset hate)

Ok alittle CLarification again (I'm really sorry, but I want to make sure I understand this before I go to Uggalpeih and get suicidal.) To get the key for the paint brush I have to kill tonberry cutters for th their key, then go to the paintbrush room, examine a bookshelf, then get the key from off the table?
As for the lamps, how many will I really need? It seems like you two did it with a different number. Just 2? All 4? Even just 1?

The Lanterns are Rare/ex. You should have atleast two. Since with only 1 dude running around lighting torches they might go out, and he'll have to do it again.

I can help if needed, I got my lantern, just no brush, and probably a 1K charge on my Tonberry hate :P
Well, an update, a few ls friends and I and going to try and obtain the paintbrushes and our lanterns on Wendsday. If anyone wants to come along espcially for the lantern, that would be great. My 2 friends are a 60 RDM and a 61 or 62 RDM (I forget his lvl).
Also, we plan aslong as we gather the materials, we plan to try and do Z4, the actual BCNM on Friday. The times are not yet decided though they won't be till in the afternoon atleast, 6pm+. As for Z4 we will need a tank and 2 DDs. The RDMs will act as the sleepers to the 2 mage tonberries and what RDMs do best and such, and I will act as healer. If you are intrested in doing this mission or helping, please post on the board or send me a /tell. I'm usually on almost 24/7 due to Summer Vacation. My name is Parody.
