Don't know if you lucky people who DON'T use Verizon DSL know this, but the people (like me) that do use Verizon DSL are/were BLOCKED by Playonline, via domain name ever since some patch was applied this afternoon...the best part was that Verizon said it was POL and POL said it was Verizon. It was like being in a huge he-said/she-said pissing match. Did nothing but **** me off.

</sigh>

I am still unable to access, and this happened sometime after 2:00PM this afternoon... they must not like having happy users.

I was left to do some thinking during this down time about SE. Now this is just theory. From how this kind of thing happens, and when updates come out we have severe congestion, and thinking about how the loging process works... when we log in there is probably ONE server for POL, then one server for FFXI player accounts. (causing extreme bottlenecks as the servers try to process all the logons...) Once verified we are then routed to our World Server... being the one which is the area we logged off in... probably old news for some of you all, but I was just giving it some thought tonight. They also must have multiple servers that run different areas of our "world" (since they reboot areas without rebooting the whole world...). Never gave it much thought until today... I am one class away from my degree and today was the last day of two of my classes and I was in a thinking mood I guess! LOL!!

Hope to see you all again some day... if I am ever allowed back on....

awwww...
me sorry alii, me heart you.
Yeah, had that issue with my old cable company.
They blocked off ports in there internet, the ones that
ffxi uses. Thus, I couldn't get online for about 2 weeks.

send me an aim, or a yahoo message, if your bored, lol

I am going to flip out on freaking SE... I can't even get to the Playonline web site to complain or get a phone number... I just read in the Alla home area that SE is claiming some pipeline between Verizon and Japan is down.... I call shenanigans... go get my broom...

If I have two wait for two weeks for GD SE to unblock the verizon.com domain I am gonna freaking go postal and requst a refund for two weeks of time... I swear to God... do they think we are idiots?!? Do they not know that "nerds" play this game and knwo a lot more than they think!??! Cripes... what the hell...

Well, I did some more snooping (don't have much more to do that chat with Lebron via IM... LOL!!)and found that Japan seems to be having a bit of a problem:

Internet Traffic Report Web Site

Now, at this time "Asia" is in the red, at only 27/100 traffic, or 54% packet loss. If you click on the Asia link you see this:

Asia Internet Traffic Report

Whcih show that Japan is at 100% packet loss... nice. For non-geeks, that means they are completely down. Now, I find that hard to believe as I am sure people are still playing.... but their info looks to be out of date for the Japan router... now, Asia does look to be traveling a lot slower than normal though. I saw a post stating the problem was in CA, but CA looks ok... Mind you this not a bible for internet traffic status, but its usually quite reliable. I work in web hosting and this site is great when we have customers report problems and find that they cross some of these hop points when they show major problems.

Sorry, I am bored...

Good luck Alii!

The best thing you could do if things are still playing up is send both offending parties a traceroute, watch them argue about that! :)

Anyways, hope you're online soon, Cerberus isn't the same without you!

^^;

Thanks!! /blush

I was happy when I could get on today, so whatever issues were occuring were resolved at some point while I was unconcious last night! ^^ I see that there are some updates tomorrow, so I am hoping that there is NOT another hurdle for me to leap (I play on PC mainly...)

Thanks! It's good to be back!

Grats, I still think SE is out to ***** us anyways. I mean they have the only mmorpg ive played that tries to stop minimizing, forces you to use a retarded update system that without fail cripples the game for days every time, and it doesnt even auto rety, you have to sit and click it! Gah!

Why? Their service here has been spectacular! I am about to get on their Fiber Optic service... the problem was a down network else where. Not my ISP... Verizon is only a local provider - problem was that the route that my access takes to Japan passed over a down carrier elsewhere. Why that carrier didn't re-direct ... God only knows. It still was odd that it happened after SE did "maintenance" though...
