I want to start this thread so everyone can tell their tales of defying death in it's grimmest times.
Here's my great story... ^.^
Healing from a great battle from an Ice Elemental I hear large footsteps coming from behind. I arose to witness a team being chased by the mighty Shadow Dragon! Only half healed I arose to accept my duty as a Paladin to offer my strength in this time of need. *Flash!* goes my spell. The dragon begins it's onslaught on me. I, from behind, begin my futile struggle to save the team who, coincidintally zones, leaving only the beast and myself in this struggle of power. The battle ensues as I attack from the rear, planning out my next attack. I notice my Invincible ability is just seconds away from use... Argh! Petrified by it's breath!
The beast begins it's onslaught of brutal attacks which drains me quickly. Nooo! I've been slain! The team i've saved... nowhere in sight. I, all alone in the cold, cold snow covered ground lay there wondering if my death will be assured by a timer/ Oh cruel death, Can you truly be this cruel? I pondered to myself. The timer slowly eats away as I lay there. This timer of doom... Oh no! 4 minutes left and nobody has come to my rescue. Suddenly, like a becon of hope, A White Mage by the name Sweetpuss casts Raise II on my fallen body. I arise and thank the great White Mage for her contribution of life.

As far as the ungrateful team goes, they have my forgiveness.
This is a VERY TRUE story that happened only minutes ago.
Anyone else have a great death defying story to tell, I'd be glad to read about it ^.^

Myself and a friend's team assailed the yagudo stronghold. After sneaking past the majority of the winged freaks we stepped to the door leading to the altar that we might slay them for the precious coffer keys that they held. After we slew the yagudo for their keys and I found a coffer containing my awesome chaos cuirass we went to the altar to get the crest for genkai 3. I was still outside the door running to the altar when they all fell leaving me stranded at the top of caste oztroja with no prism powders or way out. So gathering my courage I activate the Defender ability on my war sub and I ran.
I did not make it more than a few feet when suddenly a yagudo asssasin began it's ninjutsu casting and nailed me with an elemental spell. Panicking I immediately ran as though my life depended on it, running through the castle as an ever growing army of yagudo followed me, I made it a door and opened it, feeling the heat of their breath on my neck I continued running eventually reaching the bottom floor. As I neared the exit the yagudo army (levels from high 70 to early 20) chased me until I hit the zone wall.
Results: My af body was done. Hp: 133/1150
I did not make it more than a few feet when suddenly a yagudo asssasin began it's ninjutsu casting and nailed me with an elemental spell. Panicking I immediately ran as though my life depended on it, running through the castle as an ever growing army of yagudo followed me, I made it a door and opened it, feeling the heat of their breath on my neck I continued running eventually reaching the bottom floor. As I neared the exit the yagudo army (levels from high 70 to early 20) chased me until I hit the zone wall.
Results: My af body was done. Hp: 133/1150
Heh, one of the very first parties I was in.
We were in la theine and I was fighting as a thief. We were only four people and we started fighting a goblin at the lake. Well, we were doing pretty good, hard fight but it was doable.
All of a sudden, another gob comes up and starts wacking away at our thief. Well since our party setup was thief, thief, war, whm, we were pretty screwed. I changed gobs and voke. Then I two hour it. The other thief changes with me for no reason and starts whacking the mob with me. Now it's a 2 on 1 with war and whm in one, and thief thief in the other.
What ended up happening was the first mob threw a bomb. Now we were all really low hp so the whm uses his 2 hour. He gets aggro and killed... Now the war finishes the mob off, and now turns to the other one. Our other thief was holding aggro now and had been since my two hour let off, so he was about dead.
The war comes up, vokes and gains aggro. We all know we are so dead, but the war 2 hours anyways. The gob is going down and i'm starting to think we might make it. He drops a bomb. Our thief, being low hp dies and so does the war. The gob drops on his *** from killing himself. So all that was left was me in the red hp, standing with 3 dead comrades around.
ME: " Ummmm, what do I do?"
Them: "Get a raise."
I couldn't, so they hped and we disbanded.
Ahhhhhh.... the good old days.

Ballista, lvl 60 cap, a blm friend and i enter(he's 58, i'm 54) because he requested to 1v1 me. The unlikly happened and he was put on my team to make numbers even.
The teams were Drk, Drk, Bst, Blm, Drg, (all 60 but the two of us) against Rdm/rng, Rdm/whm, Rdm/blm, Smn/whm, and blm/whm.
Already we can tell the odds were against us, we wouldnt be able to get close to them really.
As the match progressed and their points got higher(they eventually won the match) i made sure to be carefull about summoning my wyvern, for fear of its death.
As the hour progressed i got into the habit of Calling/dismissing it so i could have it for later.
Eventually we actually got our chance and took their entire team out, just for revenge, none of us had petra's. As i beat on the Smn's avatar it fell quickly(shiva) and i decided to let the smn go, because it was probably useless to go after it anyways.
As soon as everybody started resting(i still had my wyvern out, almost full hp so i couldnt dismiss it) their entire pt stormed in and killed us all. Including my wyvern.
While everybody except the two drk's who remained and still tried to fight hp'd to regroup and attack organized, i wanted revenge and waited out my timer to come back to life.
Because of the two drk's i got my lucky chance, they didnt see me raise again.
As i wait in preparation mode (When you wait out the timer, you re-spawn in preparation mode, its an invisible that has to wear off, gives you full hp and 50 tp) i went up to their blm first, took out my lance and waited to be able to attack.
As my invisible wore off i quickly laid rest to the blm, as their spell took too long to cast and engaged the smn. instantly penta'd to his death and went against a rdm.
Jump, highjump, and a few swings got my tp back, and i super jumped to escape a couple spells, as the one fell, i engaged another, in their haste they had forgotten to put up stoneskin and phalanx. Penta thrust and and a few swings to their death.
As i finally engaged the last rdm(i took the /rng out first, sidewinder DID hurt) they were the /whm, blinked, and cured stoneskin/phalanx'd themselves.
Through all this my pt is going "uhhh.....shepp? you ok?" and finally arrived to cure me and help finish off the last of their pt.
Apparently when my wyvern dies i get quite pissed off.
