We on the Draconis Linkshell very recently had a member quit the game. It was a long story why he was leaving, it had to do with Friends, and the 'Real World'. We are all sad that he left (yes, he gave away his items and deleted his well rounded, advanced job, high level character), but understand why.
We had a send off for him. All the ls members on at the time met in Selbina. We talk and laughed.... and yes when he got on the 'Last Voyage' out of Vana'diel some of us cried. We were not close friends, hell, we didn't even know his real name until we said good-bye. But, we at Draconis pride ourselves on being FAMILY. And, the family said farewell to one of our own.
How close are you to people you met in the game? How much do you know about their 'real' life? I was thinking about this after. I know somethings about almost everyone on our linkshell (almost 50 strong), something personal, something REAL. Does that make them REAL friends? I think so.
There isn't a person on our linkshell I would not invite to my humble abode. There is not a person there that I would not enjoy spending 'real' time with. But, since we are spread out all over the world, we spend our time in Vana'diel. Does this fact make me a game addict? I'm not sure. Do I come to Vana'diel to 'play the game' or the 'be with my friends'? Both I am sure. But, my friends come first (even out of Vana'diel)! If one is having a personal problem and needs someone to talk to, they are priority. The game... although fun and exciting (and boring) is second to the friends I have found.
Now... with all the rambling finished...
Good-bye Sidius... Hopefully we will meet again
