To be more precise, people are having problems in the New York, New Jersey, and Conneticut, accessing the Playonline Manager, where the loading screen for them will take forever to load, then just die out giving them an error code.
This applies to anyone who is using the Cable Company, Optimum Online in these three states, as their internet provider. Optimum Online is pretty much a monopoly cable company for that area, and the only other residential broadband available here is Verizon DSL. This problem affects both PC and PS2 users.
This problem was first noticed almost 2 nights ago, when people had problems logging back onto FFXI (people who stayed logged on are suffering no problems, it is only a problem within POL). Both SE and OO were bombarded with phone calls. If you call either one of their support service phonelines, there will be an automated message at some point saying something to the affect "We are aware of a problem for people using the cable company Optimum Online in the Northeastern part of the US. OO is currently sending technicians to work on the problem"
There are many speculations as to what the cause is, and both OO and SE have identified this is a OO problem, as no one else seems to be suffering from the effects. Interesting enough though, this happened around the time SE was finishing maintenance on their Friend Plus feature of POL.
I am seriously unnerved by this, and was basically wondering if anyone else in the server lives in the Tri-state area and has had problems with this. I am fairly certain this isn't SE's fault. I am getting a feeling though that OO users won't be getting their POL back anytime soon, and if that is the case, OO will lose a lot of customers.
