As I have read the threads I agree with all the others that are concerned with the negative items being placed in the last few weeks. This world of Vanadiel as all others suffers from the diversity of its players and therefore their own individual quirks. People that can be cute and endearing to some and absolutely hateful to others so in order to obtain the balance we are all so desperate to find I propose the following. Please take the following words in consideration when you feel the need to say something negative.

1: Please wait 24 hours from your experience before posting a negative thread, distance from the situation creates perspective.

2: For every negative posts add a positive one as well, if your experiences were all bad you would not be playing this game so share.

3: And lastly remember ultimately it is a game and for everyone that has upset you chances are that you have upset someone yourself.

Let’s talk about all experiences and find the hero in all of us.

Good advice.

Here is some I posted on some other forum I run (unrelated to FFXI) [Sorry for the quality of the English, this is translated from French. I hope it makes sense.]

a) Don't post when pissed off (whenever it's a bad day at work or in the game). It won't bring anything good and sooner or later you will post something you will regret. Instead go take a walk or play some first person shooter (or some other forms of stress relief not involing other people.)

b) Don't write insulting messages (whenever crude direct insults or some subtle forms of berating rhetorics.) Insults will just make the dicussion degenerate given insulted parties (and their friends/supporters) have the dentency to reply in the same manner.

c) Public criticism is an invitation to a public answer. Even if you are right. The stronger the criticism, the more defensive will the criticed parties be. Being moderate can prevent a discussion to degenerate. People admits mistake more easily if they are not losing face while doing so. So some criticism might better handled in private.

d) Admitting your mistakes is a sign of intelligence. Anyone can be headstrong, it takes a brain to analyze what was said and realize that maybe one was wrong. Apologizing if one is mistaken is usually well received.

I think it really boil down to treating other people like you would like to be treated. Life would be much more enjoyable if everyone behaved that way :)

Cheers,

Janus

hmm... i normally hate being the critic, but i'm a little perturbed at the necessity to advise people on what to post on the forum.

mind you, i'm not saying the advice is bad. in fact, the suggestions are so good that i wish people would follow it, just not needing to be told. seems almost like others have to dictate the rules on how to go about posting, which feels wrong.

in some ways, i miss the crowd of EverQuest. only played it for awhile in preparation for ffxi, but most of the people on EverQuest are mature in their playing style. sure there were a few badasses, but i haven't yet seen any the magnitude of ffxi players. name-calling, job-bashing, rpg-bashing, slandering, threatening bunch, or so the reputation seems.

hope this changes in due time. maybe another more attractive MMORPG would come along and sap up the zealots ><.

I'm sorry if it came out wrong, this is a litteral translation of some somewhat moderated site.

I don't mean to dictate anything to anyone on Khazam or FFXI. I just wanted to share some advice that really helped made some virtuals communities quite pleasant to read in the past 10 years.

People are free to do what they want. Again I apologize if this offended anyone.

Peace,

Janus

Well put! Rate up!
I, for one, am definately an optimist, and therefore can't stand it when people just vent, vent, vent nonstop... If a friend must vent to me, I'll take it, but with the volume of topics I see on this and other websites... I just can't take it myself. Be happy people! This game can't be as bad as you think. Just because you have one bad experience... it shouldn't provoke you into ranting about it forever. If you have one bad experience, then don't dwell on it, and relive the happy ones. If you have at least 5 per day, well then... I'd consider taking a break if you can't handle it, and just let those of us who want to enjoy enjoy ^.^
Please, this is not a flame, and do not flame this, this is just my honest opinion on this issue. I'm not dissing or flaming or trolling ANYONE, so please no one come up with a comeback to this... I really don't appreciate it ^.^;;
