Can anyone help ?Follow

Eh, I'm not particularly sure if anyone will be able to help me here. I just got moved back into my college dorm, and the network security here is really tight this semester. I convinced the network administrator to open up some ports for me if I can find him a host name so he can specify it to my dorm room or something ? If anyone has any idea what I'm talking about, a post with some helpful input would be appreciated.

try and do this.

Start - Run - Command (if your on windows XP)

and type in ipconfig.

you should see info, your ip, and other stuff. Should be in there.

ermm... I think he needs your computer name.

go to your desktop, right click your "My Computer" and choose properties. Go to the Network tab and check your computer name... I believe this is what he needs.

Also, go to your start menu and hit run. If you're on windows 2k or XP, type "cmd" and hit enter... otherwise, type "winipcfg" and hit enter. If you're on win2k or xp, type "ipconfig /all" at the dos prompt.

In either situation, you want to look for your adapter address (MAC address/MAC ID or Physical Address). This number is 6 groups of two digits to each group. Also generally contains alphanumeric combinations.

Give the IT admin this address along with your PC name. Hopefully that will help. Otherwise he may give you a lil more specifics so we can try again.

Meh. Dunno if that'd do anything. The only problem is the range of ports that PO offers...the network guy wants to be able to open as few ports as possible and still allow me to play. I can understand that, but, I don't wanna let my 40BLM/20WHM just go to waste in a sense x_X I understand IP's and all that, and he could probably just get that somewhere rather easily if he needed it.

Ok maybe I can shed some light here. What your DA (Domain Administrator) is looking for is the domain host name that you are trying to connect to. Essentially what he needs to know is what ports that POL (Play On-Line) utilizes to communicate with your ISP. I THINK this is in the manual. If not you should be able to get it through customer service on the official site. I'll do some digging and see what I can come up with. He needs to know what ports are used and in which direction. Hope this helps!

Go down to the Router things, and you got the ports and stuff that needs to be open for ffxi to run.
