why come every time i get up enough gil (e.x. 179,000gil)
Because you have it.
Its human nature to neglect something you already have and take it for granted. Reason being is because you don't feel the remorse or guilt or hurt from it till long after its gone. Once you have something and loose it, you miss it. If you have something, but don't loose it, its just something you have and you don't concider paying it more attention. Finally, if you never have something, you'll never miss it because you don't know what it was like to have it initially.
The saying: "The grass is always greener on the other side." kinda comes to mind... Therefore, you have to pre-plan your gil. Before you buy that lvl 20 gear to add +1 DEF to your current lvl 18 gear... ask yourself if you need it... or if you'll need the gil in 10 levels when you need a lvl 30 armor that adds +8 DEF +2 AGI and +1 STR (Just making up stats).
Right now, I have a blm, whm and rdm. I don't mind playing any of the three, but I need gear and spells for all three too. I've got a good amount of gear collected up. I don't resell my gear till I'm done with any and all jobs that use that gear... providing that job interests me and I wanna level it. I have a mule that stores any unlearned spells and any unused gear for any jobs that I have. So now, I only have to worry about spells. However, each spell being 20k+, I have to decide which is more important... Barblizzard or Poison II? Gravity or Thunder II?
Some tough decisions, but I don't have the gil for both. Whenever I have in the past, I'd buy both. Why? Cause I could afford to. However, push come to shove, I probably don't use 12k worth of my spells EVER and could have used that for my next spell instead.
