"Intresting" Job Combo's To See Out ThereFollow

I think that I would get alot of criticism for even thinking about these job combinations but I've been playing mages for waaaay too long and wanted to try something "new". Here's a list of what I thought would be nice to see and explinations:

Sam/Rng: I think this combo would be like super duper SCer. Not only would you have awsome TP gain but you would get the benefits of ranged weapon skills too! I can't really find a fault for this combo except for the fact that alot of people want Samurai's for 2nd voke and such.

Rdm/Nin: This combination would probably work best if you were a Taru cause you wouldn't have too little mp. Also, you could dual wield swords/clubs and actually get some tp/int/mnd.

Nin/Rng: Welllll...... so not the greatest idea cause you can't tank/voke but I have noticed that a lot of Guns and Bows can also be used by nins. With katanas and strong ranged attacks with the weapon skills of both I think they would be very effective damage dealers, perhaps better then Rngs. Rngs mostly use knives which do so little damage whereas nins can use katanas which do more damage then knives.

Smn/Brd: Those who are not summoners probably think this is the stupidest combo but I know a few smns that detest main healing. I mean, if they wanted to be a healer, wouldn't they have chosen whm? But anyways, a smn/brd would be like the ultimate buffer. At the same time, they could melee because they don't have to worry about standing back and casting spells. They can stay with the melees and constantly use whatever buffs they want.

Hrm... I can't think of anymore right now but feel free to comment on these ideas or add more. I want to find a really "different" job combination that will work ^^.

Maybe you guys can explain to me why I see DRG/RDMs out there. Cause to me it makes no sense.
#5 Sep 01 2004 at 2:37 AM Rating: Decent
I've seen a DRK/RDM... I've done rdm/mnk in the early/soloing levels of a rdm. SAM/PLD is another strange one... MNK/DRK... can't think of any others atm...

A friend does DRK/PLD and said it works for him (at least did from 10-30, have not seen him recently).

Someone in my LS (Elvaan RDM ;_;) was going to come farm for Carby's Ruby with me with... RDM/DRG! Because "it was the only sub I had leveled"... bah, he must have had SOME sub while he was leveling RDM to 30... otherwise, besides being Elvaan, who can make decent RDMs with proper equips and subjobs, he was a total gimp in just about every way, minus perhaps melee. PERHAPS.
/cry

I would say the oddest job combo i saw was a BST at level 25 with no sub... like none, like he didnt even do the subjob quest... lmao (I am currently playing bst, so that is not a hater remark). Also there was a whm who was like 27 and had no sub...

Anyways, i have seen bizare combos.

The no sub is probably from the glitch, I have walked around as a 52 WAR no sub before.
#10 Sep 01 2004 at 11:53 PM Rating: Decent
I also understand in the Outlands there's a NPC you can talk to who will let you remove your sub just so you can play such tricks on unsuspecting observers.

I must say, Asra, that RDM/DRG is a F'd up combo for sure... WTF does a DRG have to add as a sub? The dude should have done DRG/RDM if that were his case. At least then he's got an excuse for gimped MP and has a pet to help fight. /sigh

Lol, I must say, I don't see ANY point whatsoever in subbing DRG. It doesn't really give you anything does it? I mean, wryven is a 2h special and as a XXX/DRG you wouldn't have it. I mean, POSSIBLY SAM/DRG for the WS benefits but even then, anything else is practically better.

Hrm... and SAM/PLD uhm. erm. okay so no. lol but SAM/DRK now that's a different story. There are a bunch of benefits there, you would have more damage, have an intresting way of casting black magic and the use of Souleater/Last Resort.

WAR/BRD - Dummer Boy
DRK/PLD - Mean, but sensetive
MNK/BRD - And take that! And that! And that!

I have a friend that uses brd/thf we tell him it is uselss but when you are broke you do what you must.

Most ppl use or "think" about using drg as a sub for the acc. bonus, traits you get, for a sam or drk that would helped them hit if the drk or sam are to lazy to buy ANY good equip. (trust me i've seen my fair share of awsome drks and sam's and complete horrible ones)

On the note of the thread tho, i was thinking of playing smn/nin just for complete FUN dont bash me please, it'd just be something to play and fool around while i run thro dunes bashing gobs and all^^. But thats my 1.75 gil =P

Then there is the job combination I have done often enough that ppl have just gotten use to seeing me do it: SMN/BLM. My LS mates use to give me so much flack about it...till they realized I had made it all the way to 50 solely on that job combination =P Yes, I have leveled WHM. But it is currently an under-leveled support job at 23 at this time. the only time I level with it is with my RL mate, Sisyphus. Who plays on the same server and is currently a 21 WAR. Gotta keep something in that level range so we can PT together. I'll get it up there eventually...but yeah, SMN/BLM rocks =)

NIN / RDM taru (Blink, Stoneskin, Utsusemi Ni, Utsusemi Ichi), Stoneskin would block while ur recasting your utsusemis (same w/ blink, not sure if it stacks w/ utsusemis though :/), also, fast cast II @ lvl 70 NIN would be great along w/ a warlock mantle for a long NM fight creating fast cast 3 which would cut down ur casting speed ALOT. Also, you could cure urself if a dang NM or anything messed up ur utsusemi cast, so thats the only idea i got -_^

One taru in my LS is a RDM/NIN and it's amazing how good he does. I have a pic of us fighting a Gigas in Korolloka Tunnel where he's trying to jab it in the knee with two strider swords. LoL. He can solo T's by himself still at lvl 34, granted they're worms, but still pretty impressive.

EDIT: Also, on occassion I use an odd combo that gets the -.^ from time to time. MNK/DRK. Even my LS criticized it. I started it just goofing off but then realized it's actually pretty friggin powerful. Nothing like finishing a SC with Raging Fists then casting fire to MB (yes it's a weak mb but it's still fun! How many monks do you see magic burst?) I've only seen one other MNK/DRK and that was just a couple days ago.

i was reading about DRG and it said according to your sub depends on what wyvern does. Rdm makes wyvern buff party members it says. i.e cure and stuff. As long as guy having fun it sounds cool to me.

I personally will be a MNK, so not much I have as far as flexibility.

MNK/WAR -> Obvious.
MNK/THF -> Also obvious (noted that SATA Raging Fists hurts...)
MNK/SAM -> Spamming Raging Fists? {Yes, please.}

Those can be quite utilitarian.

MNK/RDM -> Eh, I've seen some people use it. Being able to Enthunder your own fists is handy, not to mention Curing when you're still waiting for a Chakra.
MNK/DRK -> I personally want to try this one. The idea of a MNK who can do ridiculous damage just sounds too fun to pass up. Not that they can't put the hurt on as it is... ^^;
MNK/BRD -> Er... I dunno. I might test it. Stacking Focus and [that song that raises accuracy?] would be cool.
MNK/WHM(BLM)(SMN) -> Try it and I'll kill you.

I've also seen a lot of Monks subbing Ninja at really high levels... aside from Utsusemi, anyone know what this would offer?

Someday I'm going to go to the dunes and try to pick up a party as a SMN/BST.

I'll let you know if I get an invite. Then we can all blist that person.

XXX/DRG -- the jumping XXX. :)
PLD/DRG -- the ultimate tanking paradox.
PLD/SMN -- PLD so pure, he can call on the avatars to assist.
BST/SMN -- ran out of pets? call the avatar!

also, i was talking about this with someone:

make an XXX/SMN party, where EVERYONE is an XXX/SMN. sample party would be WAR/SMN, BRD/SMN, RDM/SMN, WHM/SMN, BLM/SMN, DRK/SMN.

OR, make a complete SMN party, where everyone is a SMN. sample party would be SMN/WHM x 2, SMN/BRD, SMN/RDM, SMN/BLM x 2. remember also now that avatars should be able to SC. i'm just curious what the SCs are though. >< (this is inspired from the all BLM party. ;))

I partied with a guy in Qufim Island last night that was a WHM/PLD. When I joined the party he was actually complaining that it was costing him too much MP and they needed to kill stuff faster.

Well duh.

Would that be Lovegod by chance?
#26 Sep 22 2004 at 2:35 PM Rating: Decent
No I think his name was Rolem or something.

He seemingly didn't have a problem that he was a WHM/PLD and was hindering his parties either.

Just because you're a WHM does not mean I'm desperate enough to party with you if you've got a crappy subjob :/ I wish more people would understand that
