Looks like I picked up a MNK to join up, but he wanted to join only if his WAR friend, also 50, can go ... Sooo, we have our last two slots filled in ^^

The semi-final lineup: RDM, BLM, THF, WAR, MNK, WAR

I say "semi" cuz we dont know if we'll get those last two definetly, so we can keep on the lookout just incase.

I don't think it's faster to teleport-vahlz and walk than to go from Sandy via Ranguemont Pass (we won't get aggro in the pass, and should only get TW, EP or EM or DC in Baucedine as the mobs are max 45, in Xarcabard it's another story...)

Everyone *MUST* get at one or two stacks of silent oil (they are 5k or less in Sandy AH) to go through Fei'Yin. There are magic pots that aggro on magic.

Here is a map (seems we want to go in K-8 on the first floor)
http://ffxi.killvoid.com/maps/images/feiyin.jpg

Here is our target:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/bestiary.html?fmob=1569

The strategy is: pound Archlich Taber'quoan into oblivion and ignore the other mobs. RDM doing Chainskill + spamming Cure IV (and doing a Convert in the middle) and the DDs two hours (especially the MNK) seems to be the key to a quick and painless victory). The mob has a Drain AoE, I guess when it's getting weak, so we might want to wait till it is at half life before to unleash hell and make sure it goes down without using it. It's unclear if Stun can prevent this AoE. But I will try :)

---

Is one of the WAR a blink tank (WAR/NIN)?

Thanksfully we have a THF to control hate and stick it to the tank. Make sure the WAR who will tank has defense equipment rather than damage one.

Has everyone gotten the mission and just has the fight part left to do?

I apologize for sounding picky, but there is nothing worse than going all the way to Fei'Yin and die there because we don't have an adequate party setup for the fight or two persons forgot to activate completely their mission and we are left with 4 persons in the burning circle ^^

Maclean will be be blink tanking (hes a WAR/NIN), so the other WAR, if he comes along, will just be a backup Provoker and DD ... as for the Cure IV spamming, am I spamming it on the Archlich? Or on you guys? I was thinking of keeping everyone healed during my first round of MP, and then using Convert to unleash hell with my second round of MP with Chainspell.

Yay for blink tank. That mean we won't nead to cure much.

You spam the Cure IV on the boss, he is an undead, it will damage him, make sure to get +MND equipment if your healing is not capped.

I will keep the party healed (Cure II and III should be enough) while you do the Chainspell + Cure IV trick on the boss. With Manafont I should be fine :)

OK great! I thought I was going to be in charge of healing and you were going to use your nukes ... but I see I was wrong ^^ ... just make sure to send a DS + Cure III my way when I use Convert.

I'll scavenge my MH and anything I put up for sale from my BLM for MND+ (I think I had put a Justice Badge up for sale, +3 MND ... hopefully it didnt sell) ... as for regular equips, Im going to be wearing RSE and Inferno Sabots (unless a friend gets Elders Sandals for me), so I cant really mess with the MP+ from those pieces ...

EDIT: Oh yea, as far as the Drain AoE goes, ive read that it uses it when low on health, so the Cure spamming should take care of that ^^

Yeah, you should keep your +MP gear. I would say +MP first priority then +MND.

I will do nukes, we will both split debuffs and cures at the beginning of the fight. As long as it doesn't depel your mana too fast. But for the endgame you just focus on killing that thing with Cure IV and I will keep us alive :)

Also let's not do the fight on Dark day as it would boost the mob drain and lower our Cure attacks. :)

Ideally, if you can quest it from Windy before Sunday, you want:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=1478

It's a lot of quests to get there though... I think I'm up to the 4th of those.

Ok, I'll make sure to have tanking gear and not damage dealer. So I'll pick up some new boots and a Iron Musketeer's Armet. I'll also have an Icarus wing with me and I'll try for a couple X-potions as well. And I'm always ready to sneak/invis myself.

If you blink tank you don't need much def since you Utsusemi should get all the hits but one, then the backup voker will take the hate off you while you recast. The RDM will keep you hasted for faster recast, I will keep you Silence free so you can recast. So it's fine if you have DD equip, that will get you more hate.

Maclean, have you ever been SATA (Sneak Attack + Trick Attack) partner before? do you know the drill? If not Neera should brief the vokers.

Eilurac, do you have Phalanx? You might want to do Stoneskin -> Phalax at the beginning or prior to the Chainspell attack. And macro a /p warning message before you use Convert so I can time my Cure III + DS :)

We will brief everyone before the fight. Maybe practice on some mobs in Beaucedine?

Let's break Cerberus record for that fight :)

I hope I don't offense anyone with my dumb questions about who knows what.

I just had a bad experience at level 50 with a WHM who didn't know how to keep the mages and ninjas silence free, the Protrectra III up all the time, the DDs blind free etc. Also got a group at level 40 who didn't do skillchains nor SATA and with mages staying in the AoE radius.

So I prefer to ask the obvious before the fight :)

lol better to be safe than sorry ^^

Sorry, but Phalanx was way too much back when I was first able to learn it, and I have since forgot of its existance unless someone was casting it, or, someone talks about it, like in this case. But now its implemented in my head as it can safe my life from Chainspell hate, so it'll be one of my next big purchases. Sadly, that wont happen before Sunday o.o I'll make sure to use Blink + Stoneskin before the Chainspell is activated.

I'll also set up a Convert macro with some PT chat and a <call> so that I can warn you ahead of time. Also, do you think it'll be a good idea for me to Elemental Seal + Silence the Archlich? I may (MAY) get my hands of some ethers to get even more MP recovery and throw out more Cures.

Some practice runs of a battle situation will be great. The mobs in FeiYin should be good enough for such a thing. Hopefully we get lucky and wind up fighting on a Light Day and have a easier fight ^^

A friend of Maclean, a lvl 54 DRK named Nary, contacted me asking to join up in the mission tonight. nary will make an excellent addition to the team, as Bloodweapon + Spinning Scythe will remove the group of minions that help out the Archlich. That should make the battle a whole lot easier ^^

So far all the strategies I read says to just ignore the minions (as they will respawn as I understand it.) Just get the boss down quick.
I don't mind the addition of a DRK, but weren't we 6 already?

BTW if more than 6 are interested, I would be available to do several rounds against the guy so everyone can clear 5-1.

Also, while we are in Fei'Yin, if we could kill some Ore Golems and Shadows (43-46 mobs), I would love to get:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=3127

So I can get my Teleport-Vahlz scroll complete for my WHM :) But we can discuss that after the 5-1 fight. ^^

The minions dont respawn (at least I never saw anything say so), so killing them wouldnt be so bad, but its just a suggestion ^^.

We have the commited 4 of us (Neera, Balzac, Maclean, and myself) adn Nary seems to also be ready for the fight as well. The other person I had talked did want to help, but did not seem to commit to the idea of the time and day. I was told to just send a tell as we gather n see whats up. It might be because the person, and Im guessing his friend two, live in Hawaii time, which is a 6 hour difference from the Eastern time, so getting on at 2PM may be a problem. Then again, Im just guessing. If we need the one more PT slot filled, Im sure we'll find someone willing to go.

For the most part, the mission was a complete success!! Balzac, Neera, Maclean, Nary, Meign, and I had the battle planned out. We knew what we were doing, and we were all ready to execute that plan. I couldnt say the same for some of the other PTS, which comes to the elsson leanred today: When we plan a big mission or quest on these forums, lets do our best to keep it to the people on these forums. Here we are able to sort things out and understand what we're gonna do. When I joined up in the alliance (yes, an alliance), there was total chaos. Those from my PT know it should have taken us half the time to get to Fei'Yin. But now we've learned a lesson, and itll be noted ^^.

I also learned another thing today: the Shadowlord doesn't play.

Upon returning to Bastok and finishing 5-1, I got a tell to join a 5-2 PT. I was intrigued, and my LS said I should see whats up. At first I thought something was wrong, cuz I know the fight is 58-60+, and Im only 54 ... yet, I was invited. Could we have some high lvls helping?? Yea, but sadly it wasnt the case here. 2 lvl 50s, a 54 (me), 57,58, and a /anon ... From the moment I saw the info, I knew it just wasnt going to work ... no offense to the players, cuz they were great ppl ... but its jsut tooo low of lvls. However, we did manage to surive a 2 Demon and 3 Quadav link deep in Baileys, and managed to fend off Goblin links and Demons in the Keep. In the actual Shadowlord fight, we lasted a good 10 minutes wearing him down in the first form, but then our low lvls shined as the AoEs he unleashed ripped us to pieces. Dying sucked, but as you can see, I learned a whole lot.

Neera, Balzac, Maclean ... I cant wait till us 4 go ... cuz from what I saw today, we'll be kickass =D ... as long as we are leveld up! When I hit 60 and Im fully prepared to go up against Vana'diel's bane again, I'll make a post about it here ... thats when we can all check in and gather together once more ... CeberusAlliance!! w00t!! (lol ok Im done)

Actually, the shadowlord fight has to be possible at level 50 because before Zilart 50 was the highest level and the Shadowlord was endgame fight.

Or have they changed something since then to make him harder?

I'm gutted i've just read this post i would have loved to do mission 5-1 :(

Lol, thinking about it you are right, the Shadow Lord fight must have previously been a lvl 50 fight. Sad its not like that now.

As far as your 5-1 Mission goes, post up on the boards. Im pretty sure the PT that I had will answer the call and help out.

I know a PLD on our server that is also in need of doing M5-1. Send him a /tell in game as I don't think he checks the forums. His name is Najjar.
