It was just another tradgedy in Bhauflau Thickets. The replacement for the DRK was dead, and the RDM (only raiser) had gone AFK for ten minutes. This is after a long, boring argument we had had about how the NIN (me) shouldn't be wearing a hauby. "-eva??!!?" screamed the DRK, as I ate the dirt while trying to explain to the RDM why I need to have haste on me all the time or I will die. "You need +eva!!"

I couldn't help but think "What else do I need?"

Maybe the 5/6 JP party I had earlier, where we full-on exp'd for 3 hours and got around 30,000 exp. Someone went AFK once, and nobody died, and nobody complained about a NIN wearing a hauby.

Is this just my bad luck and I just had a good JP party and a long stream of bad EU/NA ones? If so, maybe people who are more like those in the JP party I had would like to exp with me. I'm 61 going on 60.

Ps. I can't believe this happens 60+

a ninja doesn't ++++++++++++++++++++ evasion if you are already
past the beginners meriting stage right? at that point it's more
of opulence? anyway as a mage in any party the only thing i care
about is if you swing fast and voke in the nic of time so i dont get
smacked to hell. i could care less if you were fighting naked
though i wouldnt recommend it. you do your job and i'll do my job.
just like i wouldnt expect you to check me and tell me what i should
be wearing as a mage for equip, same courtesy in turn. im a
friggin mage what in the hell do i know about being a melee :p
besides is the drk a 75 ninja too or was he basing his facts on what
he/she was able to yank out of their **** for proverbial shits
and giggles?

im bored and im sick at home i have nothing but time on my hands who
wants to debate or argue something :D

I don't know what the DRK's other jobs were. I chose not to play the game where everyone starts screaming about who knows how to play a job better. I explained the following:

1. I don't care about saving Shihei that doesn't help the party
2. As long as I have haste on almost all exp mobs I can keep my shadows up as follows:

Cast Ni
Shadow Down
Shadow Down
Shadow Down Cast Ichi
Shadow Down
Shadow Down
Shadow Down Cast Ni....

But no... "You need +eva!!!!"

To be honest more often that not "You need +eva!!!" ***** me up as I evade just when I'm casting Ichi, and cancelling the last Ni shadow rarely works cos Haste or Pro goes down in a fumble and them I'm truly ******* Also pecking flurry really gets my goat up. 4 shadows down in one go. </3

Luckily though, the WAR backed me up and, told me in /tell that he didn't know why they were beating me up. Perhaps because they just wanted a scapegoat to blame their downtime on. But maybe the victims to scream the loudest aren't the victims, but the culprits, when the downtime was probably solely caused by Mr. DRK and Ms. RDM themselves!

But anyway, that was just the tip of the iceberg of the crappy parties I have been having recently. I have had members with multiple blank slots in their gear who wont haste or refresh, WHM who "forget" to press ctrl+h to heal multipole times while we all stand waiting for them to regain MP, DRKs who go AFK for half hour chunks at a time and THFs who sub WAR because they "can't be bothered" to get a NIN sub. I'm not elitist by any means- But lets not be dumb and use common sense when it comes to having a decent standard.

But I suppose it's not all that bad-one WHM's macro's really made me laugh the other day:

/p HASTE COME AT YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU Mikeyc!
/p CURE TWO FOR YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU Mikeyc!
/p REGEN TWO FOR YOOOOOOOOOOOU Mikeyc!

Much Love xxx

But you have to admit. . . If you were wearing EVA gear, you wouldn't NEED Haste to stay alive. If I were a NIN in a party with a RDM60 as the main healer, I would think to protect my own neck rather than be the tough guy that forgot what NIN tanks used to be known for.

*hint* It ain't their DD ability *hint*

I think if everyone just does their job the party will go smoothly. The only time I've ever worried about another player is if I notice that they aren't doing what they should. NIN needs to hold hate. That's it. Who cares how they do it or why he needs haste? If a WHM can't keep a 4 person haste cycle going in a NIN party then what the **** is he doing, nuking? Every party I've had since starting to level WHM again that has had a NIN tank I've had plenty of MP and my only issue has been trying to keep the chat log clean enough so that I can tell when Haste wears Smiley: smile

In short, the DRK is a ****, don't worry about him. If you were in my party and keeping the mob's attention, that would have been good enough for me.

Thank you for the replies. Wint- I completely agree with you! But maybe waiting for "Mikeyc's haste effect wears off" requires too much effort for some people.

Anyway, I would also like to say in response to other post that NIN was invented long before Rampage had 4 enmity merits smacked on top of it. Seeing as I have BLM RDM WHM and BRD at 75, I might not want to be doing this. So +STR, +DEX +att +acc -eva > +acc +eva IMO, especially when +eva has a large chance of failing against IT+ mobs almost every time anyway. Haste = almost 100% guarantee shadows don't go down, period. Pecking sodding flurry also has the potential to take 4 shadows down at once-without haste a NIN is that much more screwed-and the healer will be spending a lot more MP on Cure IV's-they aint cheap and they attract enmity like a *****. Smells like a wipe to me.

Anyway this RDM was wearing a vermy, serket ring, astral earring etc (but no af) so it really should not have been a problem, especially since when I did RDM in similar situations wearing my AF at this level managed to do a god damn good job at curing and hasting everyone on my own, even if it meant gagging for the convert counter to be up. It's all down to laziness.

Also, when levelling both RDM and WHM, I never once heard a NIN who said "Hey, it's okay, I don't need haste", and more the point often heard NINs AND PLD's asking for haste any time someone forgot. I guess I have learned from my experience. But besides I had a fantastic NA/EU party the other day, with only a WHM and COR refresher in the party, who made a prime effort to haste me even if it meant get up out of /heal when your MP is on a roll.

Lets not make excuses for shoddy players-they are good enough at that themselves.

When I had a chance to level NIN, I made sure I had the gear needed to hold hate. I had EVA gear when I knew the mobs would have good accuracy. I had Attack gear when I knew I needed to hit harder. I used my enfeebling Ninjitsu to help me maintain shadows at all times. If I was in a party without a haster, or if I was in a party with a player that wasn't able to continuously haste me, I was still able to do my job without interruption. If you're so good at hasting party members, maybe you should stick to doing that. Or, since you like NIN nowadays, try wearing the correct gear for the correct situations so that you can do a good job without depending on "shoddy players". No need to complain about something that is easy to overcome if you take that extra effort to see what you can do better. ^^
