To summarize some of the high points, Alla sold out to IGE, or whatever name the parent company is choosing to go by this week. Check out the main forum or the comments started on the recent "update" on the main page about how 'wonderful' this new site will be.

I enjoyed most of the community here, but doubt I'll continue posting here. I know a lot of people are moving over to ffxionline instead, and am considering doing the same, for my server interaction. I have a great LS forum, so I spend most of my time there.

I hope none of you are considering renewing or keeping your premium accounts, i.e. donating to the gilsellers.

Take care Bismarck.

From the front page, since no one ever reads that stuff

The new Zam.com Network will consist of newly expanded and improved versions of Allakhazam.com and Thottbot.com. In addition, the assets and content of OGaming.com (and the interface sites) and L2Orphus.com will be integrated into the existing Allakhazam network. This will add multiple new games to our site, more than double our personnel and give us the flexibility to add more features, better service and expanded coverage.

In the coming months, we will be upgrading our server infrastructure, expanding our news and editorial coverage, adding sites for more games, and designing even better database services. We are committed to making this the premier destination for the entire MMORPG community.

Interesting. How very interesting.

And if people actually bothered to do their homework:

Yes, IGE's parent company has bought Allakhazam. However, Allakhazam himself used to be a lawyer. He made very sure that there will be no IGE ads (it would be a breach of contract), it's a general consensus that RMT and content sites should be kept very very seperate. Allak's staff will not be changing, I spoke with Haggan myself about this.

The databases won't be changing, the forums won't be changing. The only difference is more funding - there will be new servers bought (making everything run faster) and more time available to work on new projects. Haggan apparently got a bit of a lecture for not spending enough time on the FFXI section of the site, so it'll supposedly be getting some new attention.

I don't understand what you're complaining about. Anyone who's refusing to use a free resource for information based on moral grounds because it just happens to be owned by the same company who owns a RMT site are just shooting themselves in the foot.

Yea but I think the point is that those who do pay premium accounts will be donating to the RMT. Plus if we can't stop gilselling/buying which has been proved countless times in the past, what else do we have to stand by except our morals and the difference between right and wrong?

Oh and check here:

As Anubis said, lotta people moving over to FFXIOnline. I have yet to make a decision, but I am checking that site out.

Interesting link...

Considering the fact that Allakhazam was a joint partnership owned exclusively by Allakhazam and Illia in 2005, I honestly can't put THAT much trust in it.

The deal is that much of a comglomerate company. As in, Allakhazam.com and IGE .com are owned by an umbrella company, the name of which yet has not been released and then been confirmed yet by Alla himself. Allakhazam retains full control over this site, and over the ads that appear on this site, so I doubt that I am gonna log onto Alla tomorrow and see a bright new IGE ad.

I have been with this site since one month since I joined this beloved world of ours. I won't abandon it now without seeing how things turn out, because of that.

But my avatar, borrowed with permission from DSD of the Asylum, still will stand. Things are going to change, and I am one to hate change...

This "The Sky is Falling" mentality kills me. People just really need to relax and think about this clearly instead of jumping on the propaganda posts, mostly by this zealot named Feba, that we're now supporting gillsellers by staying here. Bah.

I like this board, I like the way it's set up and it's been a good resource for me. I'm staying. Done. Period.

At the end of the day, premium member's money is going to the guy who owns IGE. As simple as that.

The sky isn't falling, but that's no reason not to react.

Ok, valid. I can see your thoughts.

However, I did check the other sites not owned by RMT, and they have those RMT gil buying ads in their forums. They may not be owned by RMT, but they will allow the advertisement of RMT's for a large customer base, which only profits these companies we despise.

What's the lesser of two evils for you? I certainly don't know. If you are a premium member, you have heavy choices to weigh if this is indeed a crisis of conscience for you. I am not a premium member. But seriously, even if I were, I would still stay here.

True, things can change fast though. Allah said himself that he was assured that his site would be left alone as long as there is profit. He says and I quote: "We are now owned by a company that owns a bunch of stuff, including IGE." Allakhazam 2006.

But he also said and I am paraphrasing here because I can't find the same quote, but he said when we start to bleed money, then they will step in.

Why in the hell would IGE need Ad's here? You all spread the word so much about IGE they don't need them...

And honestly I don't care who owns Alla.com really. As long as it don't turn to total **** I don't care, why should you?

#14 May 04 2006 at 1:17 PM Rating: Good
Support? No.
Care about it? No

I'm happy about the merge it will be for the better of Alla.com.

Well then, your one of very few people who don't care that the economy is in the shape it is. One of very few people who let it affect them. What if in the near future the umbrella company decides to start posting gilselling ads on the site, and many more people begin buying/selling thus sending the game into an exponentially increasing spiral downwards? Hypothetically of course....

Nothing to weep about.

So the owner of Alla decided to sell. Good for him. He has put a lot of hard work into this site and deserves a little extra compensation for his hard work. At the same time I am a little dissapointed in who the transaction was made with but that is the business world and not everything goes as you would like. There are more important things in my life that far outweigh this miniscule event and I think many of you should re-evaluate what is truly important to you.

Some of you will continue on your way and disassociate yourselves with Alla and that is your choice. I on the other hand feel this site is worth sticking with as it has loads of information that is very useful to the gaming community and I will continue to use it as long as it serves my needs.

Who ever said we weigh this game above all else? It's a game we all play and care about, so naturally we care about the going ons in it. I don't remember anyone ever saying it was a humongous decision altering our lives. We all have lives outside of the game, but while we are here we care about what happens.

I will agree with you that the economy went in the dumps around XMas time but it has since recovered. What have we seen since then? SE has taken extreme measures against RMT by removing money and banning accounts. The result of this is a more stable economy that is far better than it was at XMas. SE is going to continue monitoring RMTing and take action as necessary. This has already had a huge impact on recovering the economy and will continue to do so.

RMT sites are going to exist until some government legislation comes in banning them and that will never happen. Whether Alla decides to post ads or not is going to have a minimal effect on gilselling as people already know how to find sites that do. Do a google search and you will see how simple it is to find. The biggest and best thing a person can do is to not buy gil. For those deadset on buying gil, you and the rest avoiding this site will have no impact on it. It is still going to happen.

But people who pay to have the prem account's, it's there choice to stick here or go, allakhazam.com will probably suffer because most will cancel because of this, and the site it self might stay up might go under, no one likes the idea already.

Me I dont care I will post here, dont really feel up to paying a prem account thought about it but, just decided not to because of picture or avatar big do da day lol or a little extra info.

But yes I believe its a crap idea also, Why put money into some companys wallet who run sweat shops if not or did I wouldnt give them a dime.

So basicly lets boil this down.

You all are worried about the the "AD's" that >MAY< pop up really?

Ok... go to KI Somepage ect..
Do you use them for ANYTHING?

If you do I call you all hypocrites.

This is the main thing brought up many many times, the ADs.
I'm sorry but thats the truth.

And people wonder why the world is going to ****. "It doesn't impact me directly, why should I care about what I feel is right or wrong?".. or, rather: "I don't see or understand how it impacts me"...

And, fearXI... you didn't look very deep, did you ? Or do you thing every person here is incredibly shallow ? The discussion here (from the point where they realize IGE is in the hierarchy): http://www.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=3;mid=114668646932202500 might help you understand.. or not.

My reasons for having a premium account(though only recently) is 2 fold.

The first reason is to provide information back to those people who use this site for the wealth of knowledge it truly represents. I love being able to give my experience in this game as a basis for others to learn from.

The second reason is to support the site that has on more occasions than I can number has made my life significantly simpler simply due to the content and the members that provide information to help everyone out.

It is too bad that Alla has aligned themselves with IGE giving them a name that sits badly with a great number of people, but the site itself is still to be commended for providing many FFXI gamers with countless information making them not only better online gamers, but in many instances, better people.

I completely disagree with you on this matter. IGE OWNING
Alla means nothing. It is not going to impact me directly or indirectly, in a negative way. The only thing that will come out of this will be faster servers.

Remember Alla RUNS alla, IGE PAYS for Alla to be run.

Did anyone compare the names of those cross-forum SELLOUT!-spammers to the names of the cross-forum RNG-nerf-petitions and cross-forum BST-nerf-petitions by any chance?

The biggest concrete concern is that Alla Premium members will have their information leaked to an organisation that causes nothing but grief to them, but that would be illegal. And while IGE can't be sued for gilseller, they (and Allakhazam) can be sued for privacy-related offenses.
