A friend of mine told me this has happened frequently but...

I was just ripped off, bought ranger necklace for 17.5mil. in trade. I was shouting in lower jeuno for pcharm. A few min. went by and i get a /tell saying 17.5mil pcharm buy? I say yes please. I meet SMOKIEMCPOT in lower jeuno and i set up trade 17.5mil for pcharm... trade fails.. he puts it up I accept.. problem was second time it was ranger necklace and not pcharm.
-_-. He sends me a /tell Owned like a mutha.... then logs out.
waiting for gm now... 41 calls ahead of me... I'm on Bismarck server. Jerks name is SMOKIEMCPOT watch out for this guy.

Same topic is on general forums but I think it is more useful here.

That's what I don;'t understand about the FFXI community. I mean wtf? If you need to rip off someone, rob a bank. Not in a video game... seroiusly people.

well, that sucks dude. Hope the GM does something...

wait a sec, didn't they change the trade/mog house limit to 1 mill?

EDIT= mispelled something. XD

Reminds me of Diablo II, only it was much worse in that game.

People are pretty terrible. Granted, it's only a game, but a lot of people are selfish and really don't care about other people.

How is it that he was able to switch the necklaces? If anything changes, the deal needs to be made again. Did you not notice that he didn't put up a different item? Of course, this guy is an asshat for doing that (let alone gloating about it) but doublechecking every trade after the seller hits "ok" and the letters turn red should be standard policy to help prevent this stuff.

I hope that this guy gets what's coming and that in the future, this stands as an example others should learn about so that it doesn't happen to them too!

In every single MMO I've ever played (and I've played a lot, for a long time), this is the most common way to scam people. Always always ALWAYS double check the item you are buying... ALWAYS!!

Now if only SE would implement a message similar to the bazaar message i.e. "Are you sure you want to buy xxxx item for xxxx gil?" OK No Thanks

Would help prevent the ignorant part of the community from getting scammed so much.

GM warped me outta xp party in Garliage Citadel and traded me Pcharm... Smokiemcpot shot himself in the foot by gloating over his transaction.. GM read everything that happened in chat log.
Hurray for GM and hurray for SE! Smokiemcpot... go to hell.

I've seen countless posts about this issue, and it's nice to see that GMs actually do something about low lives like this but for the little time that it takes... tell the person to put it up in their Bazaar and walk outside of tax city to complete the transaction.

Look out for #1 and trust nobody you don't know.

What I don't understand is why people still try this cheat.

When SE changed the TOS a while back, tradeswapping went out of style faster then henchmen could kill 'Krutz!'....

Then again, how many 12-year olds with an attitude read the TOS...
