Worries about the Bismarck economyFollow

Sorry about the early post, tapped return when I shouldn't have. >.>

Anyway, I've been on a several month hiatus from FFXI, mainly due to school (!), but also some personal issues.

I'm strongly considering returning to Bismarck, but I'm ... beyond slightly worried about returning due to the economy. The main problem I had with playing before was acquiring gil, and though I was starting to improve at that before I left, it's the main concern I have coming back, as it seems that the economy has inflated drastically in my absence.

Basically, I'm curious what venues (mining, farming, BCNM's) are possible for a mid-level player with little or no gil starting. Basically, I'm wondering if Bismarck's economy will allow someone to start from little or no gil, and get at least enough in a month to start up a craft.

Anyway, sorry for cluttering up the board with stuff everyone's seen too many times, but I'm just looking for the opinions of people who are still active on the server. Can you (and how would you) start from ~0 gil if you had to right now on Bismarck?

I'd start in Windurst. Kill crawlers as you level, silk threads go for 50k/stack (or more) which is great money starting out. Use some of it to buy some sickles and go harvesting; use that to level clothcraft. Rinse, repeat.

Honestly, the economy sucks everywhere, not just here. Wish I could tell you something more encouraging. :/

I think you should start wherever you please. Bismark's economy is a pure sellers market, where sellers prosper, and buyers suffer.

For the most part the "inflation" has been spread out fairly equally. Earth Crystals once went for 300g/stack and they are now 2k/stack. Silk was 10-20k/stack and it now goes for 70-80k/stack.

The problem is there is too much money in the system right now. Gil is selling for an insanely low price (you can't even buy less than 4mil at a time from IGE, their profits are so low) and I suspect some sort of collapse in the next year.

Point being, it is manageable. Just don't choose to level ninja or ranger unless you have a decent gil-making strategy.

The economy is better now than it was a few months ago... inflation has caught up to the money making items. Silk is 80k a stack, fire crystal stacks are 10-12k and tree cuttings is at 300k a stack... thats more than double what they were 2 months ago. But on the same hand Harbergeon and Scorpion Harness has only risen about 30% or so... and other items like Utsusemi ni and Erase are like 1.2m and 800k respectivly. Before it would have taken you about 12 stacks of silk to buy erase, now it will take you 10.

For the bigger items, yes, the economy sucks ***, but money making has improved moreso.
