It says on the site the service will be coming to other servers. My guess is all they need is an account (or two or three or...however many) to collect data from the AH and submit it automatically.

if you ask me it'll just create some trouble for the top 25 buyers/sellers, i'm assuming they'll get quite a bit of /tells saying "omg I poor how you make so much money?"

I'm going to agree with Ramor here, and add that I don't see any practical reason whatsoever for providing a list of the top buyers and sellers. Who cares, number one, and number two, whose business is it? My guess is that the rationale behind it is to track gilsellers, but we know who they are without something like that. If this were to come to Bismarck I'd prefer to see that feature eliminated. I can't see any real need for it.

{/sigh} Ummmmm...it's not just a list of the top buyers and sellers.

It's a record of all auction house transactions...it's a price history on all items...complete with graphs showing price trends, etc. Essentially, it is the AH as we see it in the game, but it's searchable, sortable, trackable over a longer period of time...etc.

something like this could be very usefull for crafters to follow item trends, or to calculate there losses and profit margins.

or ppl that like staying away from town forever, that cant check to see if there items sold on there char/mules.

R>C>P, I didn't say I had any problem with the rest of the site - in fact, I think it's a great idea - I just don't see where posting the list of the top buyers and sellers on the front page is anything but problematic.

Like it was said the only thing I see wrong with this is eveyone would have an idea as to who has how much money in game.. Thus beggers would come out the woodworks for hand outs..

But other then that it's a great idea.

what bothers me about it is this...

If I have a stack of something to sell. Well, there is now no question about my desire to go make price comparisons by myself, or asking my LSmates about prices in cities other than the one I am in. I could just check there and see where it sells for the most.
Same goes for buyers, looking for the lowest price, except now, there seldom would be anyone selling where the price is lower, would there ?

There is no more benefit to "knowing the market", the local markets. Because everyone can easily look it up. For me, it kills a small part of the game.

as a matter of fact, I've always been rather against the AH system. at least the way it stands. I don't like that we can see the price history at all. I'd rather we could only see the price of items currently listed, that way, people could use their knowledge of the market instead of relying on a price list. Again, this tool enhances this.


it's convenient, there's no question about that. But I've gotten to a point where every time there is a "convenience" mechanism added to these games, I cringe and worry about the possible consequences.


I could list several examples of convenient stuff that, the way I see things, hurt one game or the other, but those examples wouldn't have much relevance here, except to say that the profitability of a lot of convenient stuff is rather short sighted...

Hehe, Niji, this is simply the very in-game example of real-life Efficient Market Theory. I don't need to go into an economic lecture about it, but Google it or crack open a text on it some time. It essentially states that you cannot "beat" the market because all market knowledge is already taken into consideration in the price. I think that this will just have ramifications in making it easier to focus not just on our own AHs here in Bismarck, but now across the whole server farm.

I'm such a dork. Hehe. ^^;
