Server Forum Moderators... {Can I have it?}Follow

I would like to believe that after all the fighting we have done to get Allakhazam to bring our server forums under his wing and make them official, that we didn't lose anything in the process. However, after the strain of Belgarath and Lunies vs. Loonies (no offense meant) in our favorite thread, it seems to me that we have no one "close to home" who serves as our clipper and tamer of wild fires. I think this is why I loved the format of being in the journals, because one player from each server (who was from that server) had the ability to control the tone of their forum and make it so things stay on topic. I'm not saying that Allakhazam is doing a horrible job, but if there is some way to nominate someone to be a server forum moderator, with limited capabilities only in their forum, I think it would make at least our forum a much friendlier place to post.

My proposal? As no complaints should be filed without a solution... I would like to see a selection process of some sort, whether by nomination or e-mail application to Alla, to allow 1-2 posters be deemed forum moderators just for their specific forum, as should be allowed for a position of this nature. Again, maybe I'm wrong in thinking that Alla doesn't have someone from each server keeping track on our official forums, but I don't want to lose the more "homey" feeling that I had posting in the unofficial forums.

Whaddaya think?

EDIT: If I'm wrong and there are close to home people watching over us, please let me know. I post this in an attempt to be more informed about our moderation system ^^

I agree, our server forums are nice because it's a relief from the insane flaming that is done on the Main forum. Our little island of calm...I'd like to keep it that way ^^

One problem: I guarantee there will be much vocal protest with whomever is chosen, accusations of bias, etc. I think this place needs a moderator as much as the next person but I doubt all that many people here completely trust their fellow posters. :/

I trust Eleusynia, Byaina, and Grimina to be fairly impartial, and I find that the majority of posters here do as well. I trust myself too, but I'm not all that popular. :o

Personally the whole Belgarath thingwasn't an upset, it started out as a legitimate argument which was promptly stopped after degrading into a series of insults. The Lunarians thing however: 5 or more people created Allah accounts in an effort to start and finish an argument! They essentially hijacked our thread for 2 or more pages and spammed it with flaccid arguments, inside jokes, and ridiculous 6 paragraph long meanderings about how one person is a fool and the other person is a hapless moron/MPKer/liar, etc etc.

I for one, never want to see it ever again. I don't think that anyone who created an account solely for arguing on that thread has any respect for this server forum or the people who post on it regularly. Tact would have been to start a seperate thread or simply discuss the matter in PMs. Not 2 sentence posts about ducks and sarcastic offerings in order to make their post seem more on-topic than off. Not insisting upon arguments after everything clearly had become vastly distasteful the majority of Bismacrk posters at large.

Moderator {Yes, please}, if only to prevent this sort of thing from happening again.

Our standards of moderation are fairly leniant. We do look in here, but we rely on you guys as well to call our attention to the bad threads by rating the initial post down. If something gets out of hand, e-mail me, or post in the feedback forum if it needs attention.

To be honest, I think it's just human nature, and the fact that many of our fellow players are not old enough to be mature enough to just let things go. Whether that's the case in the other thread or not, I can't say.

To have an opinion is fine, but you must respect another person's as well. It just doesn't work one way. It has to go both ways. And until a person realizes that, they're going to get frustrated and angry that people don't agree with them.

Again this is really just human nature, but kids are [normally] taught to respect other people and realize they're not the only ones in the world (there's a word for this...but it's 12am and I can't think ><). It's why you see it so common in children. But if one is mature enough to accept other people, then and only then will those people get along.

Or at least, that is my opinion. >_>

FYI, Kaolian does indeed listen when something is posted to the feedback forum - he kindly closed the previous bad players trainwreck thread on my request. I like the loose moderation here and I do trust the more rational posters to call the admin's attention to threads like that that really need to be shut down. As long as we can do that, I think we'll be okay without individual moderators. It seems to be working so far, anyway...

btw, thank you endsville. That's actually quite a compliment, I think. :)

Hey, I recognize you to see stupidity and call it when you see it. I respect you enough through posts and in-game to have a fair opinion of others and to do what's right (as incredibly displayed by actually getting that post locked once and for all).

I wasn't exactly too clear on the practices of moderations here on this forum, but I'm glad to see that if we (by meaning the majority of regular Bismarck Allah posters) care enough about something to see it through, our wishes our heard and we can do something about it.

Thank you Kaolian and thank you Byaina.

Perfect. I agree with this. And I definately do not think assigning posters as moderators is a good idea.
