My venting thread... O.OFollow

#1 Sep 09 2004 at 1:49 AM Rating: Decent
Now I realized a few things tonight going through the Dunes for my fifth time. I understand that people that have higher jobs playing with new players should have some patience and urge to help teach the new players. However, after tonight, I found that sometimes enough is enough, heh. I've read people calling higher level people stuck-up or down-right @$$holes. Well you have to realize that we're used to people knowing what to do and doing it consistently.

While leveling my RDM tonight, the main tank of my 3-level separation party O.O, a 16 war/pld, chose not to voke consistently until 20 seconds into the battle and also had level 10 armor as well as a greataxe. I understand GA for a DD but not a main tank especially at such a low level. Also as I leveled my PLD I was sure to have the best equipment since I was the one getting hit. BTW level 16 is Bone Armor ^_^ b.

Then, I suggest pulling a damselfly (normal for lvl 15-16) and I'm met with defamation and scolding. Now this guy was also Rank 3, lower than my Rank 5 and insisted that he knew better than me as well.

Soon after, he pulls a fly and the party leader disbands party on accident as the "smarter" tank met his peril. I walked away, and held my tongue.

I guess the point of my story, lol O.O, is not that people higher level are "better" at the game, but newer players, please recognize that we may KNOW more due to more experience and don't defame us or call us names because you think we're being snobs lol. We do know a little bit, we had to to get as far as we are. ^_^ b

I left the Dunes then lol one can only have so much newbism for one day eh? Sorry if I annoy anyone with my opinions but they are just that. Goodnite!

Lol after my last post, I thought of another frustration that I overcame. If anyone's ever been to Ordelle's Caves the last month, I'm sure you've seen the notorious 4 jerry's there. Needless to say they are camping Stroper Chyme 24/7 (no joke). Making the pursuit of an Archer's Ring downright hateful. I finally had enough and called in 7 ls members, we then rigged it so that the 2 Chymes spawned simotaneously (sp?) and 4 ls members in the Napalm room, 3 on the stairs. We successfully claimed 7 in a row over the jerry's which followed w/ "F*** you go out" "???????????????????????????????????????" and taunts of "Look I 5 rings!". Then they leave and we're left to camp for 2 hours (no drops (_ _) ) lol and they soon return the next morning. Ah but those few triumphs felt so good. G'night!

I was in Ordelles getting my RSE last week and they were there killing all the mobs that drop the key. I was getting so ticked off at that. But then Quikstrike (who was helping me out at the time) and I just ran right past them and starting fighting all the mobs we could find before they came around the bend. I'm not quite sure why they were fighting those mobs if they were camping chyme but it was rather annoying at the time.

I'm not from this server but I just wanted to read your vent. >.<

The only thing I want to comment on is this...

Okay nothing about the Fly thing, but only the Rank. I am level 50 and only Rank 3 because I hate doing Missions. (Yeah you can gain stuff, but eh.. Not worth it, to me. I can get money other ways and I can live without World pass.) And I knew a level 20 (main job) and was Rank 4. So Rank doesn't really depend on how well you know the game and how high level you are. I know a lot about the game and my Rank doesn't really prove how much I know.

Also, some people switch countries and start their rank all over again. So you can be level 75 and Rank 1. =)

Okie continue ranting. ^^

Yeah I agree missions are horrible. I don't think I am going to go past rank 5, I know I can teleport everywhere already but it would be nicer to have an airship pass and make it right into the cities. So that is the only level I will go to unless I come across LS friends who are doing the missions. Rank isn't everything to many people, but to others it shows your experience in the game which I don't think is an accurate at all.

the missions and cut scenes get a 100x better starting with rank 5 and up.

the cut scene for rank 6 was awesome, as was the cut when you zone to norg after getting rank 6.

How can you not like the dragon fights?!?!?!?!

I was going to say, I'm really looking forward to when I can start doing Missions again, it's kinda dry right now. I love the story line and questing, XP is just a diversion and a necessity now to continue the story ^^

*heh* I'm only Rank 2. XD Mainly because when my party gets together, we level. 6(-__-) I imagine we'll start doing more Missions once we hit 30 or something. So yea, I agree that Rank doesn't neccessarily mean you know anything. But still, newer players and older players alike need to listen more to their party members and what others have to say in general. A lvl 20 may know something a lvl 40 doesn't. Older people learn from children all the time. ^~*

If you are high level, get another high level friend to PL you and then PL him/her right back. Its easier to have two high level players to take turns PLing each other, rather than have the two partying together as low levels.

I was at dunes a while ago leveling my NIN from 12-14 for DRK sub. I got a lvl 50 BLM/WHM friend to PL me. I just invite lots of melee/ranged damagers to fill up the slots. We killed so fast we have two dedicated pullers hauling in mobs.

**********

As for rank, IMO rank is not a very useful indicator to tell if someone is experienced or not. I've seen some level 70+ players stay at rank 2 while some inexperienced players have high level friend giving them free rides all the way up to rank 5.

Rank 6 is the only rank that might give some indication that a player is experienced or not. Mission 5-1 is a BCNM with lvl 50 cap. So only way a low level can cheat is having 5 other 50+ level players go with them and do all the dirty work. Mission 5-2 is the Dark Lord BCNM, which is sadly a less accurate indication of experience because of the lack of a level cap. Therefore one or two lvl 70+ players is all it takes to beat Dark Lord. So by completeing Rank 6, a player is very likely to have a lvl 50+ job.

Also rank 6 is the minimum you needed to start Zilart Missions. ZM14 will grant access to Tu'lia and opportunity to kill God HNMs. So anyone less than Rank 6 might not have another job at very high levels(65+).

Overall I would say having rank 6 is a fairly accurate indication that a player is experienced. Rank 6 shows that a player is very likely to have a lvl 50+ job. But by no means lacking rank 6 indicate that the person is new.

Right...to an extent, IMHO Rank also shows your diligence and care for the game (same thing as having updated equipment). Is the game not about bettering your character while having many different experiences. I remember, starting in Crawler's Nest, the fact that if you were Rank 2 there, you weren't gonna get many invites. At least that was the case for all my parties looking for other members. I just think it shows a lack of concern with the game overall. I mean come one, a level 55 who can't even take the time to solo Poriphyron (sp?) may not actually be a poor player, but to some this may also show a person who may not be enthusiastic about doing their job in party. To sum it up, IMHO Rank also reflects upon you as an all-around player. ^^

I'm going to have to agree with Jwest to the fullest extent.

I myself, When partying in Dunes or Qufim for that matter. Always get a pt of people Rank5+, Because...believe it or not. New players get people killed. We were all there once, and I'm sure each and every one of you got people killed a few times. I know I did, because I was a crappy war tank. I didn't know enough about hate to hold it. Call me an elitist, whatever. At least I take the time, while passing through zones such as Dunes and Qufim to lend a helpful pointer, or destroy goblin trains in Dunes.

But, While partying in said zones, I absolutely refuse to get anyone below rank5.
