So, yesterday morning I get up and decided it's time to level my DRK again, since I love that job more than anything. So, after waiting with my flag up for about an hour, I get an invite to come to the Crawlers' Nest. A friend in the party sends me a tell saying, "Just so you know, you'll be tanking." ><

Now, in the end, the party worked great. I had a good time with them and I got two levels out of the deal, but...here is my plea to all you in Bismarck that read this:

WE NEED MORE TANKS!!!

When in the hell did tanks become a rarity? Back when I was leveling my Warrior up to 30 so that I could get my DRK (the only Adv. Job I've ever wanted in this game) the tanks were a dime a dozen, it seemed. Ever since I hit 30 DRK in Kazham, I've noticed a decline in the meat shields.

Now, of course, I'm probably answering my own question here. Everyone gets to 30 for the Adv. Jobs, which is why there seems to be less tanks around anymore. Or, maybe it was just the time of day I was on. But this is my plea: Please, we need more tanks. Maybe I'm being selfish, because as a DRK tanking, I was barely able to get two spells off in a fight (3 tops) due to the damn spell interruptions because the damn beetles kept hitting me over and over again. This in turn might start to gimp my magic skills, and well, I just can't have that. I'm addicted to my Absorb spells now.

So, anyways, there's my rant/plea. More Warriors. More Ninjas. More Paladins. I love you tanks more than anything, and we need more of you now it seems. Back pre-30, ya sat around waiting for a White Mage. Now, post-30, it seems you sit around looking for a tank.

This party didn't happen to include two THFs and three RDMs did it? If so that one THF is in my LS.

Another LS member had that problem last night in the Dunes. No tanks to speak of. As a WHM that likes to be invited to a party rather than making his own I rarely have this problem, but I certainly see your point.

I love Ninja, but it's so damn expensive, so that's out. Tarutaru PLDs are already frowned upon, so, can't do that. And Warrior, well, we won't go there. So there's one less tank on our server here. :p

But it seems as though around 9-10PM EST there are a ton of tanks on seeking parties. Most of them are finally getting done with their homework. :p

I created a galka warrior on another account that I plan on PL'ing into the 20's at least, then when he hits 30 I'm gonna PL him as a PLD as well. I know Galka isn't the best choice but it's kinda nostalgic from the beta test, I had a galka then and I want one now :P

yeah,

me and my set sat around for a freaking HOUR waiting for a tank - then finally settled for a WAR/THF =/

and what's wrong with a war/thf?

Warriors are supposed to be tanks if they need to ( I prefer them on a damage dealing role though ), and they have *a lot* of hate generating tools at their disposal. Just make them eat fishkabobs :P

tanks are on a shortage because so many people are becoming dark knights. Not to knock the job i love it personaly but dark knights are everywhere now. My main is a lvl 15 Paladin atm i took the job because i love tanking. But with so many dark knights and ninjas and samurais running around, sure itl be hard to find a tank. monk seems to be ona rise as well......

thats a posibility to....tanking can get oldi for one picked up DRk so i could damage deal for a change, but people love tanks and its that fame that we thrive on. Whats not to love about someone who gets the hell beat out of themselves so you can in turn beat the hell out of a monster?

we warriors can only take so much. and i say warrior cus to tank as a pld or nin, you have to play warrior. it gets tothe point where we say damn it all to hell, and play another job

It's getting to the point now where you will probably be pressed into tank service just on the merit of having a WAR subjob. Bad news for DRK, DRG and SAM; classes that wear light armor and aren't gifted with exceptionally high HP (depending on race), but typically sub Warrior.
In addition some of the popular straight DD gear is more toward damage and less toward defense: attack up at cost of def, two-handed weapons that preclude a shield (hope that parrying skill is up, brother.)
It's valid to argue that these DD jobs can tank well; but the best parties have specialists. A pally is going to suffer a lot less getting Cursed Sphere in the kisser than a DRG will, and that's less HP lost, less MP spent and more EXP earned.

So, agreed.
More people need to hustle down to Sandy and pick up that PLD job. Anybody needs help with that, message me, and I'll sneak you in and out to get your items. ^^

I think one of the worst problem is that many people do not think about the future.

Let me explain. Higher levels prefer PLD and NIN as tanks over WAR, but come on, what subjob are PLD and NIN using to tank? Hmmm. Let me think... WAR!!

My WAR is stuck at 32. Which will get me to 65 with my PLD. But then because WAR are at the bottom of the tank list, it might take me a couple weeks to level my WAR again.

Same thing goes for other jobs. THF for example. How many times have I heard: "THFs are useless below 15". If nobody invites THFs below 15, they will never get over 15. Period. That is why whenever I level a job in Dunes, I try to grab a seeking THF if there is one.

So I am asking all of you in here that prefers PLD & NIN tanks, helps us level our subs to serve YOU better.

Please tell me what you think.

I have not had my flag up for few days now when playing warrior. I still get /tells asking if I want to party. I thought this was strange as I was told I wouldn't get any parties was a war/mnk.

I play late in the am pst. time so maybe that is why I am needed.

I invite WARs to be damage dealers after 30, and they do a great job at it if they're equipped correctly and know what they're doing. I do prefer PLDs, but if there's a WAR seeking rest assured I'll consider it. A backup voker is always appreciated and their damage contribution is nothing to sneeze at.

I think more jobs need hate buildings tools, Paladin and Monk for example. Paladins are obviously meant to be tanks, and Monks seem (from what I've seen) to be capable of it as well (monster hp, Dodge etc.).

A mnk should probably only tank if the monster is high defense and low damage, like crabs. Mandys are okay too.

Last night when trying to find a place to camp in Yhoator our group kept gaining aggro cause the mages wouldn't use thinks like invis on themselves, or deodorize after the monster went off chasing others losing sight of the whm. I ended up tanking the Smithy's before I died each time. I got my butt whooped. So monks are not great at tanking all monsters.
