Absurd ( high end game related )Follow

#1 Aug 31 2004 at 1:17 PM Rating: Good
( please bare my poor syntax and/or text structure, I'm not used to writing long texts in English ^^ )

Well here it is; I'm a level 70 samurai, one of the captain of the MystBattalion linkshell - lvl ranging from 30-70 - ( yeah, they're the best, really ) and as of lately I'm grinding my teeth over high end content of the game.

As it looks, you *absolutely need* to be in some uber linkshell to even think about doing stuff like HNM, Gods, Missions ( though, looks like Taio and Thuggychan got my back for ZMs; muchos <3 to them ). And it appears particulary true for "regular" melees, as we aren't really needed for anything and can't get randomly invited to do these.

Now, you're gonna tell me "why don't you just join one of those uber linkshells" and I'm gonna respond "because I'm already with the people I like the most on the server, with MystBattalion".

My grief lies mostly when I encounter the following situation: I *really really* want a Kamewari GKT, which drops from a pretty tough hnm, Amikiri. I thought about asking some of high end LSes on their message board, but I'm afraid afraid of being perceived as a beggar, and more often then not, they usually keep the loot for their own members. Even though, in this situation, the sword is level 70 rare/ex, they'll end up giving it away to someone in their LS whose samurai is probably around 34 and will prolly not even get it to 70 ( or if it happens, it'll take months :P ).

So basically my question is, why do I have to wear the same pearl color as people I already know in game and consider as "friends" to be able to access high end content. Or maybe I'm asking to much from them and am only considered as an "acquaintance" to them.

bah, had to get this off my chest heh ^^;

I can see both sides. We have a level 75 in our LS but he's not able to hang out much because he's also in one of those uber LS's and is doing all that high level stuff you're talking about. Of course they're going to want to keep the loot in the LS.

On the other side, I can feel your pain and I have a feeling you're stuck until more NA's reach that same level as you. I know I for one would be willing to help out on that kind of stuff once I get the ole' WHM up there but at lvl 42 that's probably going to take me a while ^^

This is how EQ's end game went. You could only be in one guild, so if you wanted to raid the high end content, that's the kind of guild you were in.

And no, you can't expect them to give away items, even if they are rare/ex.

I think I should have been more precise; it's the one pearl policy that irks me. Why can't I get the better of both worlds would be more what I ask for... Make new friends by joining another LS while keeping the old ones that I "grew" with, without being perceived as a non-dedicated player by the high end ls and an elitist by my first one.

When a member of a High End LS gets a piece to use, it's so that High End LS gets that much better. By giving their members better stuff, they get better as well. I hope they don't /random 1000 for items when they drop. They'd want you to raid with them just about every time you're on, and you'd end up being perceived as an "elitist" anyways.

In short, you can't have it both ways.

I sort of hate the LS idea because of this, it doesn't make people choose between what they want to do. I have a slight bias because I was an officer that handed out high end EQ loot all the time and I wouldn't want it going to someone who was only there to get a few items and leave, matter of fact the EQ Guilds were pretty good about letting each other know who the people who couldn't be trusted were.

If you want the "uber gear" you're going to have to put in some hardcore time for it, that is just the sad truth behind the end game.

Well, it's not only for the uber gear that I wanna try high end stuff; just doing those things appeal to me. Staying up till 4am friday nights, drinking energy drinks, hunting those Wyverns/Gods/Rabbits(?!), whipping my gkt or swords just for the heck of it on those huge mobs.

True, I would enjoy getting those loot though, but I'd say it's a 60% adventure / 40% loot thinking I'm going with.

I know what you mean, I'd say it's 50/50 with me, there's no better satisfaction then killing some big bad **** like say...King Behemoth of Kirin for the first time. (Except maybe getting a shining cloth on the 3rd =P)

there is another thread basicly talking about this. the game is made to force people to work together. but most people have a solo mentality, they want to just hang out with a small group of friends. thats fine. but you are paying to play a game that for the last x-mas game put in huge trees that you needed the whole server to kill.

your best bet is to get your LS to join into one of the "uber" LS. keep with all your friends. you all grow stronger, and have fun doing these quests BCNM and all that you couldn't before. and make the "uber" LS all that much better

so you're saying being with friends is individualistic? >.>

At this exact moment, 3 NA LS seem to dominate the scene in terms of presence and capacity:

Lunarians, Iron and Archidominus. As far as I know, they all have single pearl policies. Soem of them enforce these more strongly then others, but the idea is the same.

Im in Wintaru's LS. At this moment, im the highest player actually spending time there. Most of the guys are either 50-60 or 40 and lower. Its been my first LS and theres no way im turning my back on em.

Ive been recruited by a smaller shell for end game stuff. They are very nice people, and are rather smooth with someone having other shells and other duties. We are smaller then the 3 i mentionned earlier. Might never get a shot at the huge HNMs like Fafnir, but I dont think it bothers most of us. Eveything that is killable by one alliance will be killed... Fact of the matter is, ive met some very nice peeps and I very much enjoy my time there too.

So i know divide my time between those 2 shells. People in both seem to understand that I have loyalties to two shells for different reasons. Theres no need to abandon one altogether.

Seek out some of these LS, theres plenty High End ones, albeit smaller, composed of people who will not leave their past behind...

Hit me up in game if you want a few names.

Lunarians pretty much invites you if they want you, so don't ask them, they'll ask you.

IRON takes applications, but I think they're closed for now.

ArchDominius, no clue, but a lot of my friends are there as well.

These are just the big NA ones, this doesn't include the JPN LS's on our server.

its just the simple truth, sure small LS can and will do those high level BCNM and all that. but the large LS will do it more often. and win more often

being with your friends is great. so then you have to pick, make your friends level up not just to the level. but the jobs needed to do the quests you want to do. or get pickup groups. the large LS will most likely not let you join. simple because its not easy to do these quests and they will want the items to go to people that support them and the LS, and not just grouping up for a hour or so to try and get a peice of it all.

I think Kingpopof pretty much describes exactly what I'm looking for.

I don't want the e-drama of large HNM LS, nor have this much "dedication" for a game; I got this thing called real life that I still cherish from time to time ^^;

kpp, I'll get in touch with you sometime this week in-game

Fylgia, I really think you should just do what you need to do. This game is meant for enjoyment, and if joining up a HNM LS is gonna increase your enjoyment of the game, then so be it. As one of the captains of the same linkshell, I still remember you calling me out on my underleveled sub when I first joined =) And I will admit that if you left, I would probably cry (hey, I'm a chic! I'm allowed!) but I would also understand and be happy for you. I want you to be enjoying the game, killing gods and getting that awesome weapon because you deserve it more than most people I've met at your level. But apparently that enjoyment includes some crappy choices to make, but we'll support whatever you choose.

Just stay in touch because MB will always be your home^^

"... calling me out on my underleveled sub when I first joined =)"

Really? Sorry for having been so Feydish then ^^;

But like it was mentionned earlier, I would feel like turning my back on you guys and this is what I'm mostly afraid. Those not so "serious" LS King was talking about look like a nice alternative.

Heck, I even thought about quitting because of this dilema

This kinda stuff really pisses me off. I myself know only a few people that feel the way you do Baron, myself included. It makes me sick that people can ditch their friends and members of an LS they've been with for months. I'll never leave my LS, our level range is 20-65, but -all- of us know eachother and all feel about the same with this.

It's sickening to me that you feel obligated to leave your LS just because everyone else does when they get close to end-game. Yes, a few LS' on the server do run everything, but that doesn't mean they're happy people. You know deep down they envy us because we've made a bond, and didn't leave our friends for personal benefits.

And if they can't deal with you having a pearl to their LS and your LS, they need to remember that you're playing the game the way you want, not being dictated into playing it their way. If they really want you in their LS, they'll understand. If they don't understand, then they obviously only want you for doing meaningless tasks....

Most of these LS have 1 pearl only policies only regarding HNM because belonging to multiple HNM ls is ultimately counter productive (having to camp against your other ls and such)

But as regard to LS that are chatting ls (lower levels, friends, lots of chatting, not interested in HNM stuff or can't yet) I don't think people have any problem with it. Leader of my HNM ls told me that other ls to chat is OK as long as hunts and endgame stuff be done strictly within 1 HNM linkshell.

Speaking about my LS (Lunarians), we only invite people for Dynamis and maybe another LS for really tough HNMs. I've been away for awhile so I don't know the what happens exactly. Most of out hunting is done within the LS. It's going to be very difficult to get that sword since you need a good amount of 70+ players to kill it.

I'm also adding that Lunarians doesn't restrict you to just 1 pearl. You can have as many as you want except that you can't hunt other HNM with any other linkshells. You also have to have the pearl equipped while hunting.
