Any high level MNK's out there?Follow

I have some questions regarding my 48 level MNK. I would ask in the job forum, but people over there tend to get slammed by the resident MNK-in-charge, Effen.

1. Did you bother camping the NM's for your Kote's and Jujitsu Gi?

2. Do you switch out gear mid-battle to use skills like Chi Blast?

3. I sub THF, and really don't want or need to sub WAR. What are your experiences with different subs?

4. Take a look at my profile and let me know if any of my gear is substandard. I also like playing my THF/NIN, but it tends to be expensive because of Utsusemi. I'm not sure if I should level MNK, THF, and NIN.

1) At the level that Kote would be most helpful, the NM is way to hard to camp. Also, the NM spawns in close corners, because it doesn't spawn very randomly, it is overtaken with bots, so good luck camping it. The earlier you get the kote the better.

The reason is, if you are 36, +20 attack is a lot to add to 200 (Or whatever your current attack is) But as you level, and your attack gets higher, +20 isn't as big a difference to 350 attack. So the earlier you get it the better.

Maybe you could get lucky and have them given to you, like a begger I know of.

(Sorry, didn't mean to be rude, it stinks when you work for these, and other people get them as hand outs)

2)For Chi-Blast, I have a bunch of +mind equipment. I cary a Justice Badge, +mind rings, I have a Royal Army Mantle, (Bought with Conquest Points) and I use my AF gloves(Which increase the amount of +attack per boost) and Chi-Blast for 300-500 damage after 10 boosts.

A MNK role in HNM is usualy to Boost 12 times, and Chi Blast. It ignores mobs defense, and does not give the mob TP. For this role, you will need to have WHM leveled for a sub job.

Being Elvaan also helps, due to their high mind.

3)It is sooooo wrong to sub anything but WAR with a MNK. I dont want to bash your choices, but a MNK/THF will do a lot less damage than a MNK/WAR

THF adds a little dex, which is more or less worthless as you progress and DEX gets replaced with ACC gear.

But more importantly, you are missing double attack, berserk, and provoke. Double attack kicks in very often, and with MNK H2H low delay, when double attack kicks in, it's like you never stop hitting. Also, you get a STR bonus by subbing WAR, which is a lot mre valuable to a MNK.

My question to you is, if you want to be a better MNK (Which is obvious because you are posting here, asking for advice) Then why would you sub THF when WAR is proven to be the most affective sub for MNK?

The only time a THF sub is good for a MNK, is if your PT has some kind of hate control problem, in which case your MNK would act like a THF, post level 60 when you can use Sneak Attack > Trick Attack, and then your job would be to Trick Attack onto the PLD, but you would be sacraficing a lot of Melee damage for hate control.
4) Gear.

What you have looks ...ok...

Get Tactician Magician hooks, +1 if you can.

There are some items you should strive to get, but are luxury items, so you can live without.

For head, Emperor's Hairpin will last you till the end of the game, so look into camping him, or buying the pin in the near future.

Ogygo's Bracelets are OK, next best thing to the Kote, but again, look into getting the kote, they will last till the end.

Upgrade your rings to the +3 STR, or go with Deft Rings,+3 DEX, in the near future, about level 55-60, your going to need Sniper's Rings.

It's time to get rid of your RSE, actualy level 40 was time to get rid of RSE.

Get Jujitsu Gi, +4 accuracy is what you need. What good is having +STR if you are missing. This isn't realy a luxury item, more or less expected.

You could get a Brown Belt, You look silly in a Purple belt, but... You are getting close to the levels where +Accuracy are more important than the Brown Belt, so you can save some gil and get the Life Belt at level 50.

For feet, Get rid of the gators, and get Fuma Kayahan.

Your gear is good for a level 30 MNK... Time to farm...

My guess for leveling NIN, NIN that cant afford the job are some of the worst players, and judging you from your profile, you cant afford to play NIN.

For example, Emperor's Hairpin is a NECESITY for NIN, the +10 evasion makes a huge difference. Evasion is why you were able to cast Utsusemi, which saved the WHM some MP which got your PT a chain 4 instead of 3 (If you have it >.<)

GAh...

Tset, last night Leeluu and I spent 4 hours there camping that NM.

Another PT of 3 shows up, and we spent an hour and a half following them, watching mobs respawn waiting for the NM. At 1:30 AM we finaly gave up..

This morning, I logged on to see a pair of Kung Fu shoes for sale at AH.

Thanks for the nice response. I figured mucho farming would be needed in the near future. I have other level 40 gear, but have much better results with what I currently have because our PLD holds hate pretty well. The only time I steal hate is when I SATA + Raging Fists. So I'm worried about using WAR as a sub.

I guess my biggest concern is that I really like my MNK, but at the higher levels it will be hard to get a party. I currently have a static (which is probably why I can get away with some subpar gear) but I'm worried that it will only last for so long.

As the NM's seems so tough to camp, I will break down and farm for the rest of the equipment that you suggest. And I will definately consider leveling my WAR from 15 to 30 to sub with my MNK.

Hey, Cat! I really think you should abandon this whole MNK thing and level SMN. It's really more your style. <grin>
