Ok i got my RDM to Level 43 and in every party i have been in since i have refresh the WHMs and BLMs are Demanding Refresh at every given turn and to be honest it is quite annoying. Granted it is my job and it does help lower down time but for Mages to expect it every 15seconds and kinda rough Just wanted to see if it is Me that has the problem?

I have been getting better at it with refreshing the WHM and BLM and Pally and teh beginning of every battle but by the time i can debuff the mob its already half dead? What and i doing wrong here?

I understand that but lets take last night for example. The Whm didnt say anything to me and i was watching is MP and it didnt go below 300 and when it did i refreshed him. But because i wasnt doing it after or before every battle all of his/her LS members were all telling me to refreshing him saying i suck as a rdm for not doing it? I was kinda taken aback by that so i did just that for him. Sad part was the Downtime was just as long and the battles were longer since i couldnt debuff.

It just seems that that is all i am in a party for is to refresh and to Dispel when needed. I thought there would be more to do as a rdm at this lvl.

Hmm, interesting post, although I have RDM at level 1 currently, so I'm not really qualified to offer a response, I figured I would chime in anyways.

I think something a lot of people miss is that every job has a similar burden. As a NIN/WAR I use Provoke *every* 30 seconds of every exp party I join.

I have a great WHM friend who feels as though all he is used for, is Curing and to be a Raise monkey.

I have a THF friend who feels horrible for having to SA/TA every minute to maximize that hate control.

What I'm trying to say is that party play is this game has been honed to the point that everyone really has a few *key* job abilities/magic that can maximize their contributions to parties by repeating whatever your function is.

I understand that RDMs take a lot of heat with {Refresh} {Please}, but I think it helps to take a look back at the bigger picture and realize you are not the only one stuck with using a key job ability/magic repeadetly in an exp party setting.

In regards to difficulties using Refresh, I found a link to a guide that appears to have a good section on using Refresh here http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html?fjob=2&mid=1083715073930369133&num=401. If that doesn't answer your questions you can try posting in that forum with any difficulties you are having and people should be able to offer advice.

Furthermore, I just wanted to add, at level 41-45, RDM has just gotten Refresh, and you are possibly partying with other mages who are levelling with a Refresher for the first time. I'm sure to a certain degree although these people are not trying to be bossy in regards to needing to be Refreshed, they do come across in such a fashion. Things like that will slow down once the other mages you party with have experiences with a Refresher and learn that they will in fact be Refreshed.

You just need to setup a "refresh pattern" on your members. Refresh paladin ( if any ) > refresh on whm > refresh on blm ( 120 mp ); after about 2:30 minutes, restart the pattern.

You should have plenty of mp to still debuff and do bursts once in a while. Heck, after 60, you might even become the main healer on top of that so there's plenty of stuff to do for a rdm past 41 :)

edit: ah! Germonick beat me to it ^^

I remember the party I was with when I finally leveled to 41. I took out that Refresh scroll, used it, and at that point it was all over ;) The white mage was hitting on me by the time we disbanded ><

This has been covered before, but I'll repeat the advice others have given. Set up your rhythm for Refresh, make it a habit and get used to it, and don't let the WHM and the BLM jostle you. You have a job to do just like they do, and if you were simply standing there casting the same spell over and over, you wouldn't be doing your party any favors.

When the mob gets in reach and SAnTA is finished, debuff. The WHM and BLM aren't going to die if they don't get immediate Refresh, and you should have the pally covered during the pull. But always get those debuffs in first; the mob will die faster, the tank will take fewer and lighter hits, and that's less MP that the WHM needs anyway.

THEN, Refresh yourself. This always goes first, because when you run out of MP so does everyone else. Save Convert for emergencies or extended chains.
If you melee, take your weapon out and watch the Refresh timer. When it's up, get the white mage. Next time it's up, get the black mage. After that the DRK, if you have one. And in between, keep your eye on that chat log, because the first debuff should be wearing off somewhere between the white and black mages.

Oh yeah, it's overwhelming. You went from being the backseat sword-swinger with Paralyze to an airport traffic controller at JFK. But once you get the rhythm down you'll impress yourself.

Don't be swayed by screaming mages. Yeah, it's a wonderful and necessary part of your job, but there *is* a recast timer on the bastid, and you have plenty to do while it's counting down. When they whine, say "I'll get you" and leave it at that. Just make sure you do. ;) They'll quiet down when they see you know how to do your job.
