Well, I fished up 5 stacks of moat carp the other night on my fisherman, and I was pretty happy stoked to get the money back cause I almost have enough for Astral #2 (Final Ring before Serket, har har).
I go to my box...None sold? Run over to the AH and check the sales history...3500 ><
Now, I've seen a lot of things fluctuate in price, but I've never seen Moat Carp flucutuate DOWN in price before? People are going to buy moat carp by the truckload A) for crafting, B) for Lu Shang's quest, there is absolutely no need to undercut on Moat carp, they will sell in one game day (as long as everyone keeps the price steady) every day. They used to sell in less then that.
I realize that it is not a seller's market in this game, but that is totally besides the point, think before you undercut, in 5 stacks, you're short changing yourself 2500gil, that adds up.

the price of those will always go back up, people buy too many, too fast for them to stay at that price for too long
I refuse to sell them for below 4k. People will get the idea I hope -.-
A few people in my linkshell were talking about this last night. I personally don't fish, but I can see why it'd rub a few people the wrong way: selling these things is a part of their financial stability in FFXI. It'd be like miners suddenly getting their mining gear nerfed, or having tons of mining points removed, or farmers suddenly being unable to get rare drops from mobs, even with TH2. It just ain't right.
I really feel bad for those of you who suffer because of the sudden undercutting, and I can only hope the price raises itself back up, and soon.
I'm gonna make a thread that lists all the undercutters soon. My BCNM party just got undercut on 2 Utsusemi: Ni scrolls which have dropped from 400k to about 160 in the past month or so. >.<
Yeah I did the same exact thing. I couldn't believe someone was undercutting moat carp! They ALWAYS sell. Why undercut? They sell as fast as you can walk to your moghouse! Why undercut? I spend a lot of time fishing and it sucks to see that they're being undercut. The only thing I can think that would cause it is the market being flooded because of the AH maint. Does anyone remember what the moon was? I was in a party so not paying attention. But if it was a good moon maybe there is a backlog from that. I hope that they go back up, I'm about to need a hefty chunk of change for new gear ><
As an interesting note, I also saw the Moat Carp price shatter a couple nights ago. There were over 200 stacks up at the time though, so I'm not suprised the price declined.
Also, in regards to Utsu: Ni, I believe it isn't the undercutters, but the increased amount of BCNMs in which it can drop that have led to the large decline in price. The last update in which SE added BCNMs I think they added *several* that can offer Utsu: Ni.

Yeah, get ready for a real pricing shakeup across the next three months. Demand is going to suddenly shoot up, and then it'll fall down to an even lower level after the EU players start getting to the point where they can start offering the items as well.
Did the Europeans join us now? Is that what gives?

it went down because not as many people were buying out carp for a couple of days. I know at least 5 people that finished their Lu Shang recently. And the AH in Windy went 16 hours at least without anyone buying any (I was the last buyer, and 16 hours later happened to notice that I was STILL the last buyer hehe) and there were over 200 stacks for sale.
Once some more people start working on Lu's the price will go up again.
P.S. Anyone notice that a couple folks got carp for ~1k this morning in Sandy? Bet they felt REALLY happy hehe

Windy had 250+ two days ago! Of course I don't think I COULD have finished any faster..but it sure would have been nice back then *giggle*

A thread to list the undercutters? You have got to be kidding me. Just what would this accomplish? There is nothing wrong with people selling for lower. People really need to get over this and stop talking about people that sell lower as some kind of menace to society. Simple supply and demand.
I think we can blame the fact that there are so many carp in the market on the lovely AH maintenance.
Within 30 minutes of the 8.5 hour behemoth ending, there were over 200 carp for sale in just Sandy. Hopefully the market will stabalize this weekend when the hoards of people get on.... I hope :(
This has killed myself and my roommate, moats were my primary way of getting cash (easy to moat & study). Oh well, level 14 smithing, so hopefully I can cap soon :).

hang on to the carp if it is too low now. It will probably go up. I remember when I started fishing I could sell it for 2700 a stack, wow!

This is my primary source of income as well and my fisherman can't really go places that I'd need to take him to fast track on leveling, so I'm pretty screwed atm >< Instead of getting that second Astral before I hit 51, I guess I'm just going to have to get a Dark Staff >< lol. At least I got Erase before "the market crash."
