Question regarding Selfish PeopleFollow

I had a very deterring scenario take place last night, and I would like a few opinions as to why this may have happened...this is by no means a /rant so please do not take it that way.

I have been in the process of fighting in the avatar battles the past few days. I had a good amount of fame in San' so my first battle was with Shiva. I did some research and found out that Rabao shares fame with Sandy, so I figured I'd make my way out there. Now keep in mind I have never been there before, so I was unsure on the direction to take. Fortunately some of my LS buddies came along with me, and escorted me to Rabao! Needless to say I lost my first battle with Garuda and decided to wait the 24hours to try again....this leads to lastnight. I came home from work and logged on immediately (a little excited about round 2). So my little taru shows up next to the Mini Fork NPC and unfortunately none of the WHM's in my LS were on so I made a shout.

"/shout [Please Listen] [Protect]II and [Shellra] [Can I Have It] [Please] [Garuda] [Battle]!! [Thank You]"

Fair enough right? Not a single answer....hmmm!! Now I hate spamming so I waited a few minutes and tried again, but to no avail. So I hit my search button to see if there are any RDM or WHM in Rabao....atleast 30 of them all above 35! So now there's about 2 hours left, in game time, until Iceday passes by. 25 minutes in total - 8 shouts later - I finally get a RDM that casts ProtectIII and ShellraII on me! I offered some gil but they would not except, so I was very thankful and entered the Protocrystal.

Battle didn't go so well, on account the for some reason my macros were not working with me :( So I died! I couldn't help but feel a little discouraged and logged off. I come back on a few hours later to see my little Taru standing next to the HP Crystal in Rabao. Of course I can't fight the avatar again, so I decide to move onto another one for the time being. I check my LS list and again, no WHM's online. Hmmmm...this may be a little tough.

So I'm a level 21 SMN, HP set to Rabao, and no way of getting out!!! So what else am I suppose to do...

"/shout [Teleport Mea] [Can I Have It] [Please] 500GIL [Thank You]" . . . . . . . nothing!

After a few more shouts, and no responses, I do a search and once again to my surprise I see a slew of WHM's (atleast 10+ Level 50 and higher)! I send a /tell to a few of them with translation asking for a teleport and that I was stuck in Rabao! Not one /tell back :( . . . So after about 20 minutes I'm so desperate to get out of Rabao I up my offering price to 1000GIL?!! Again.....not one person is willing to help me out. In total of 45 minutes sitting in Rabao the only person that was willing to help out was a BLM that was willing to give me a WarpII, buuuuuuut since I was recently in battle with Avatar, I had set my HP to Rabao...so that did me no good.

So I am just wondering why, with so many people that have the ability to help out someone that is obviously stuck, does nobody offer any??? It would have taken no more than a minute to just give me a quick teleport so that I can continue on my way, but instead...I was so discouraged by this that I just decided to log off!! I guess I just want to know why there are so many players that play a MMORPG and don't really understand the concept of community and helping eachother out???

Again, this is by no means a rant!! I would just like to know if maybe there was something someone could see that I did wrong or perhaps some advice that I can carry with me in case something like this happens again.

Thank you all for listening!! :)

Forgive me, but my kind nature often requires me to play Devil's Advocate:

I can only offer my own personal reasoning for not doing these 'emergency teleports' and they are not applicable to all. Yes, I'm a white mage with the teleport spells. However, I'm a whm/smn. It is not such an easy task for me.

Every time I've been in Rabao, I've been in a party. I would never think to ask my party to please wait for me while I port someone and then return back, even as a black mage. And suppose you were a whm/blm, but your hp was sent in Jeuno so you could get some fishing/questing done then warp back to civilization? There are plenty of reasons I could come up with and one of them does include that some people are just plain ********.

As for not being willing to buff you? Well, that I have no answer for.

Good luck with your avatar fights. If you see me in any of the cities when you're off to fight, send me a tell and I can at least Protect II and Shell ya =)

A) A lot of people go to Rabao to fish, the moat carp fishing there is great, and a lot of people simply don't watch their screen very much when they are fishing,

B) Most people don't set their HP to Rabao, so then they'd have to run back, not very tough, but still a pita (pain in the ***).

I'm not a teleporter for the masses generally, I make a ton more money doing other things, if I see one of my friends/lsmates /shouting for a teleport and my HP is in that city, I will teleport them for free no problem. Otherwise, I teleport myself and my group, selfish? Nope, I don't beg high level BRDs to cast Mazurka so I can run faster to where I'm trying to get to, why is a teleport any different (or ask THFs with TH2 to sit in my group for 15 minutes while I kill a NM), etc.

I'm sorry you were stuck, but on the other side of the coin, you putting your needs over whatever those other people were doing to help YOU out could conversely be viewed as selfish in a way.

No hate, no flameage intended, just a look at it from a guy who gets nagged for ports constantly's perspective.

Most of the people in Rabao are either using a fishing bot, or in a party. I did a lot of shouts there today to see if anyone would help me get my AF Weapon. I only got like one or 2 tells from a couple of mid 30's that said they would help.
