I think this was missed. - Link buttonFollow

#1 Jul 20 2011 at 12:43 PM Rating: Excellent
Reposting because I think it got missed in the four page thread I originally posted in. The link button issue is incredibly annoying.

Every once in a great while when I click the "goto the newest post" arrow, it doesn't go to the most recent post. It goes to a few posts above it. I'm using IE 9.

Also, if you type words and highlight them, then click the "Link" button to make them a hyper link, it erases the words you had written down and replaces them with the full URL.

Like so:

This (where I've got "Oh HAI Google" higlighted before I hit the link button):

Turns into this:

No, I've just been too busy with some other things to spend time on forum work recently. Sorry about that!

The next time you see this, could you copy the URL, and either take a screenshot or tell me which post it went to? (Or just take a screenshot that includes the URL.)

Yeah, I was able to reproduce this issue in all IEs, but it's so reproducible that it's proven difficult to fix. :P I think I know why IE is doing it, but I haven't been able to find a way to convince it to behave. Hopefully I can finally finish this one next week.

I'm thinking that this is probably happening because the page loads, IE finds the post, and then it loads the pictures in the posts above, which pushes the post down. Can you watch to see if it ever happens on a page without pictures above the linked post?

Update: I made a change that should hopefully prevent this from happening, even on pages with images above the target post. (If the problem is what I think it is.) Let me know if you see it any more.

I hadn't seen your replies until just now. It just happened again:

I wonder if it has to do with it being the second of three pages...? I dunno. There is one picture (aside from avatars and a signature) on this page.

Hm. Avatars already have heights set... Not sure what's causing this, and I still can't replicate it...

The link button issue is now fixed. Though it looks less pretty in IE now.
