Is there any way to code it so that these load before anything else? On laggy days, I'll see posts load, and catch a huge spoiler before the blackness appears.

On that note, ever consider the 'click to expand' version?

I have never noticed that ever >_>

But yeah, I guess they should load first.

Hm, I'll take a look at improving this so that spoilers remain unspoiled during slow page loads.

As for a click to expand spoiler tag, I'm not sure about that. If added it would likely be an additional option, rather than a change in functionality, but it seems excessive to have 2 different kinds of spoiler tags.

Spoiler Blocks (at least, that's what I've seen them referred to as) have an additional function of condensing long spoilers. So if someone's posting a two page spoiler in a thread, throwing it in a spoiler block is a lot more helpful to hide it than just blanking it out.

Also, if you actually include spoiler blocks, you might be able to use them on sub-defaults so that no text shows up at all... :D

What are the benefits of mouseover spoilers vs. click to expand? It is really easy to make a whoopsie daisy with the mouseovers, especially with really long spoilers.

If you look at it in terms of condensing space, then they're better for short spoilers--like less than two lines long. Using a spoiler block in that kind of circumstance makes the post longer than it really needs to be.

Total space saved would probably still come in favor of expandable spoiler blocks, though. Besides, it's not that much extra space on a single-line spoiler. Shouldn't be more space than a quote box.

Well, it can also be pretty distracting using a block for all spoilers if you only wanted to spoil one or two words.

Just using the same sentence,

Well, it can also be pretty distracting using a block for all spoilers if you only
Quote:
wanted to
spoil one or two words.

Assuming they worked like that. Expandable notes on TVTropes take up a tiny area when not expanded. And they don't expand very large.

Here's an example:
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MagicTheGathering?from=Main.ptitleavm2017y

In the first paragraph, next to the words "Collectible Card Game".

I also don't think having two types of spoilers would be excessive. It would just be another tool that we can use.

A lot of good points were brought up here, and I've always felt our spoiler method was a little awkward anyway, so I changed spoiler tags overall. They now give you a nifty little button which can work both for whole paragraphs or for single words.

Now you just have to change it for Live View, since it still shows up as the Blacked out REDACT version.

Ok,time to test out some nested spoilers. How many can the system take before something bad (or weird) happens? Can't wait to find out . There's got to be a limit or something I'm hitting soon . Even if it's just a limit to your patience . If you actually read all of this , then I do commend you , good sir . And now , time for an actual spoiler . Ready? Here goes: Rosebud was his sled .

And in other news, I found out that the system can only take about 90 or so nested spoilers before the button begins to act weird. But they become unreadably white before then, and you have to highlight things. Please don't ban me.

I tweak spoilers a little so they play nicer with ridiculous nesting. :P

JerekDain should change just that one button to say Spoiled, just to ruin your effort.

Actually, I think those would be awesome implementations of the "Hide Images" and "Hide YouTube" options. As it is now, you get a link that says "Image" or "YouTube Video," that opens a new screen upon clicking. Perhaps if an Image button and a YouTube button were created to work like the Spoiler button, it'd be nice. So, you have them hidden, but clicking the button just shows you the embed in the post, rather than sending you to YouTube or the poster's image page.

Hm, maybe. I'll have to test whether hidden YouTube embeds still impact performance though, as that's one of the big reasons you might have them hidden.
