Open communication is essential.

Role forums worked wonders for worldofwarcraft forums because role
forums bring issues, perspective, and understanding of class mechanics from one class to another.

My recent post about RDM melee buffs for 99 got locked and moved to the RDM forum, but this it wasn't an issues restricted solely to RDM. These are role issues that affect many classes and confining any/all to designated areas only let's them fester and rot and not actually breath and grow into something useful.

Even if you don't do it for FFXI please make them for FFXIV.

It really did seem like a RDM specific thread. Maybe if you had a more open/clear OP, your thread wouldn't have been moved.

I see no mention of other tank jobs, nor do I see anything that could have led people to believe you wanted to discuss other tank jobs.

Just sayin', in this particular case.

Role forums would be kind of interesting though.

I don't really see the point. They're different jobs, that's why they're separated. There's no "tank" job. There's meleeable-mob tank jobs, a non-meleeable tank job and then alternate/low man tanks. Nothing really overlaps about them other than the fact they maintain enmity. There's a reason they're used differently, because they're different. More things overlap with melee, but the same thing still applies that makes them different enough that making one section doesn't make sense.

Lets say I have a game, we'll call it Pong, the MMO, or PMMO for short. I make a forum for it, and I have 50 users. If I now decide to take the PMMO forum and split it into a main forum and a quest forum, I now effectivly split the forum population. Some people will come to prefer the quest forum, and some will prefer the main forum. In an ideal situation with a large population, this tends to be self reinforcing, because there is crossover between the two forums, users come and go, and the lurkers read both. There is also a potential major downside however:

As you continue to fragment the forums into more subforums, you lose a percentage of users to one or more forum exclusivly. if you split them too quickly, you end up taking mainstay posters from your "lifeblood" forums that you need to continue operation, and end up with many smaller, cliqueish communities that tend to be somewhat hostile to outsiders, and negative growth into your main forums.

This is why we will likely not add those three forums at this time. There is not a sufficient population at this time to support them.

I think that's the point. Currently many people only post in a few job forums, and never others. Personally, i couldn't name a single job forum regular for around half the job forums. Having 3 different forums for rolls that every job would fit in would cause more people to interact with people they wouldn't normally.

Of course at this point kao's got a very good point. Maybe a few years back, but ffxi is just getting smaller over time, so i don't think it's necessary.

But the overlap between them isn't really large enough to put them together. There's not much a PLD or NIN or SAM or WAR or THF or WHM or whatever tank people are using that are going to be the same enough to make a new forum for it. Most of the tanking really just relies on gear, spells, and/or play style which don't apply to other jobs, except maybe for WAR and SAM. For anything else that separates them, it is already in each of their own current forums.

I'm just curious, to the staffers here. How many forums does FFXI currently have compared to any other game? I don't really visit the gaming forums much anymore, but when I did it was for FFXI, and there always seemed to be SO MANY forums for the one game.

63 until the server merge, of which I'm interested to find out just what they'll do with the forums for the servers that are being eliminated.

63. The only other game that has more than one or two is WoW, which has 12.

Do we REALLY need more FFXI forums? Seriously?

I think we need 7 more, to make it a nice round number.

The world servers that are going away will have their forums set to read-only a few days after the world merge is completed.

And then those other forums will go away after the merger, and you'll be left un-round again. Smiley: tongue

FFXI doesn't need any more man power and server room from this site.

Fine, 5 more, so we'd be left with 60 after those forums are gone.

So we can try to make ourselves the last poster in the forum before they lock, right?

You're welcome to participate as well.

I'll see if I can get donations for a prize for each forum.
