Server forums after mergeFollow

Whats the plan for FFXI server forums after the server merges?

Certain forums (if not all) have certain threads which are noteworthy / useful / awesome. If its simply a case of deleting the forums for the servers which lose their name (if that made any sense), any way a few of the more notable thread could be moved to the server forum they are merging with.

If all the threads will be merged from both server forums, then obviously theres no problem.

Sorry if this makes no sense... Its confusing to explain. Put simply, it would be nice if we didnt lose important/classic threads. E.g 100 pages on Garuda board.

Edit: Forgot to say which game.

We're still discussing how to handle this. Our goal is not to lose any content and make it inaccessible. This isn't something we've had to deal with before and as such, we want a well thought out solution.

I think right now we're looking at adding the ability to lock an entire forum for so it's archived as our likely solution. The other option we have is merging all the threads from the server forum of the server going away into the server forum that it is being merged into.

If we need to, we can always move threads on a per thread basis from the archived forum into the other one if we decide to go with the first option.

Just to add a recommendation.

Many of those forums have developed pretty tight communities. It would really be a shame (despite the fact that I don't take part in them) for these to be lost.

I would say you should either keep the forum realms and add an additional forum for the full realm or keep the forum realms and use the FFXI general forum. I'd advise the former, personally.

The server merges are forcing two communities together who are going to be playing together. Maybe not right away, but those two communities will sooner or later merge themselves into one whole community. I think it would be beneficial to have a singular place to meet and discuss topics on the forums as a community than keep them separate.

Server merges suck. There's no way around that.

The server forums already suffer from extreme bloat (not Allakhazam's fault; there's just too many servers to expect much traffic on the forums). Adding yet more is only going to dilute an already spread out population, not to mention delay the inevitable in that these players are going to end up together.

If you do lock the old forums with potential for moving individual threads, then perhaps we have have a tally of best threads that the community as a whole can vote should be moved to keep active?
