Out of curiosity, will these rules be strictly enforced in all forums (including the Asylum)?

Right in the first section, in the Post Content and Harassment bit, it specifically excludes the Ayslum.

Please note: content in the forum designated “Asylum” is by design less regulated. While there are still limits, please be aware that content in that specific section of the forum is not subject to the same level of restrictions listed above. Post there at your own risk.

Other sections do not exclude the Asylum.

As far as the OOT forum is concerned, a lot of people post there with the intention of avoiding getting blasted in their respective game forum for an off-topic post, and get blasted anyway. There's too much of a pack mentality and I find that innocent newbs are often ridiculed for invalid reasons, something which may or may not drive them away from the site entirely.

I disagree.

Mal fit in quite nicely, and she is new.

OOT is accepting of new posters, OOT is not accepting of every ****** that can't control bladder movements.

Oh and bring back numbers, think of the children (and that sh'itbag Neph)

You will note that enforcement of that particular rule is very lax in Asylum. It's in there more for OOT and the gaming forums.

You will notice that the majority of my last 2 thousand posts have happened on the gaming forums.

I keep it clean and for the most part so do the vast majority of posters on the gaming forums. We are also adults for the most part and can convey helpul information all while being crass at the same time.

There is a difference between that and using the language in a derogatory manner to abuse, harrass and ruin the forum experience for other gamers.

My issue with this section: Will it be enforced?

While Rime uses Maluenda as an example of how the OOT embraces those who are new to the oot, I've seen many posters who have wandered over from the WoW or FFXI forums looking to post something non-game related karma bombed and shunned because they're either new, a player of either of the previously mentioned games, they have a low post count, or because they have yet to achieve scholar status. If I felt like it, I'd go find an example or two, but I think everyone knows what I'm talking about.

My actual question though, is: If someone comes over to the oot from the FFXI forum, for example, and posts a news story with a comment about it and gets harrassed by the little "clique" that seems to control post content in the oot, will there be any admin intervention? If they add to an active thread with somethign relevant and yet are attacked and forced out of the oot or even off of the forums for having a spelling error, or for saying something that disagrees with what most others are saying, will there be admin intervention?

Another question I have is about veteran posters and the oot. If a veteran poster has literally almost any post they make, regardless of content, tone or relevance to the topic, karma bombed and is subsequently harrassed by a specific group of people simply for existing, is there any form of admin intervention? I'm not just asking for myself, but for a few others who have been pushed away from the forums(Melody would be a good example. Yes she snapped and took everything a little too personally, but she was pushed there by the completely inappropriate, unacceptable and uncalled for comments by other posters regarding her children). I'm just curious and figured that this would be my chance to ask about this.

Can't see anything wrong with it at all myself, I'ld keep the explanation regarding the karma camping, it does make it clearer.

Two small things though: I'ld add a link to the exact PG13 rating explanation. More for clarity's sake than really being necessary, most people will know what it is but for those outside the US there might be a fairly large difference between their country's rating system and the US one. And sure they can google it themselves, but adding it once for instance the first time it's mentioned would be nice.

And perhaps not necessary but adding a short list of measures taken by admins? Bans and mutes, modifying posts and nuking them. Sure the list would be small, but there are several types of mutes, especially considering length of the mute. (having experienced one myself, it would be handy to also know as the muted poster, just how long the mute will be. Although that could be seen as part of the punishment though, not exactly knowing when you'll be allowed back)

This isn't an appropriate venue for you guys to air your grievances. Stick to the guidelines themselves. Bring it up in the OOT.

I think quite a few OOT posters are over-elitist and exclusionary of posters who are seen to be stupid, dumb, ignorant. I dislike how poor spellers are treated. Why can't people just politely correct them? Why do they have to hurl insults?

I have to be honest. I think having a section telling us (and we all know it's for the OOT and not the Asylum, that's "Not heavily moderated") to "play nice with the newbies" is a little ridiculous. I don't see how that sort of thing has any place in your rules. If someone skips into a forum I frequent to act like an ***, I would like to be able to tell them so.

I also have a small issue with the "Do not rate anyone up that you share an IP address with" rule. That seems overly harsh. Yes, I get that you should not use their account to rate yourself up exclusively. However, my husband has created (a few) accounts on this site, and if I were to ever encounter a particularly insightful and wonderful post that he makes, I don't see why I can't rate him up just like I would anyone else making the same post. It seems to me that the situation with Karma and people sharing IP addresses, so long as the admin is aware that there are two different people at the same IP address, is already dealt with in the "Do not karma camp people" portion of your rules.

Reguarding sections 12 & 13. I primarly use a few of the gameing fourms and have noticed over the years many low post count posters with sage and guru status. I assume you guys do not proactivly look over things like this that could be a issue, but you may want to cover the correct manner to address them with admins. Are they legit? Ratebots helping?

sigh its too early ment to add this to the thread linked above not here. Could a admin please move the post there?

For the most part it's fine, I think. You might want to spell out what constitutes a quote pyramid; I get the idea, but how many nested quotes are okay, and is it only a pyramid if the text being quoted is, shall we say, fluff?

Rate-bots are much less likely than that they have hung out in the OOT. There are a lot of posters in the OOT who are scholar or above, so able to hand out rate-ups, and in the OOT posters are pretty rate-happy. They frequently rate up posts for their humour content, as well as informational content.

Adn there's a LOT of joking going around in the OOT

No, he's talking about people who are sage or guru and have 100, 200 posts. Most of those people don't keep that status in the OOT with such few posts, because you know, post count warrants the quality of a poster.

I don't see a rule on Necro Posting? Shouldn't there be a rule on Necro Posting or is it a "the karma system is working as intended" thing?

It's absolutely the appropriate place to discuss/comment on the rules. That's what this thread is for, Anna. Kindly skip over the post if it doesn't pertain to you or you just don't care.

My point was that I don't know if that section of the rules is emphasized as much as it should be. I feel that a lot of new posters who wander into the OOT (and perhaps, the asylum) by mistake are turned away due to unwarranted rudeness they receive simply for being new, especially in the case of sub-scholars. From my point of view, it makes a difference to the community, but from the site's perspective, it could be an issue with subscriber/membership if not addressed appropriately. Maybe it has been - I just thought it was worth a second look.

The OOT does a lot of ribbing, hard teasing, and cruel jokes. We do this to the regulars. If a "newbie" shows up and can't take a random "GFY" or rude comment, he or she probably wouldn't be able to hack it.

I think this section of the rules should be omitted, not emphasized more.

I wonder how many people have come here looking for game information, considered subscribing, posted in the OOT, and decided not to?

It seems to me by your response and others that people are really just looking for free reign to be an *** about anything and everything, which is clearly not the intention of the admins if the policy is any indication. Being in an OOT forum does not mean the rules go away - they specifically allowed for leniency in the Asylum if that's your taste.

Revamp the filter, because it's flippin' stupid as it is right now.

Examples:

Chronicles of RidRichard (Chronicles of Riddick).
Yosh*thedragon (Yoshi the Dragon - Yoshithedragon).

Seriously. And how come shit only has an asterisk added when fuck and asshole are completely altered? And how come *** isn't filtered when asshole is? I was under the impression that it was the addition of the ***- prefix that made asshole a swear word.

Sorry I broke the filter, but I had to do it to illustrate.

Edit: I also feel that the atmosphere in the OOT forum has changed a lot lately. It's become what The Asylum was back in the days, except, the insults and internal jokes aren't as sophisticated.

I don't mind it, but a warning note for the newcomers might be in place.

Alternatively, I wonder how many people have come here looking for game information, considered subscribing, read the OOT, laughed their butt off and decided to subscribe? You rarely see less than 100 people in the recent visitors. How many other non-main forums can say that?

I will agree that some posters are scared off by the behavioUr of OOT posters, but who's to say that there isn't an equal amount who keep coming back because of it?

Oh right, can we insist please that people add U's to their words? This constant misspelling of words by some of the people here is frustrating.

That's a fair point, but unless you're suggesting that the subscribers gained are only possible by way of the subscribers lost, I really don't see a relationship, and I don't see why the risk of subscribers lost has to exist.

I'll admit that I don't really care about subscribers, and I simply hate seeing newbs picked on just to bolster the ego of a few veteran posters - I'm merely presenting my point in a way that might make sense to those running the site. Smiley: schooled

I'm betting not many.

I wasn't aware that Allakhzam had an OOT until I had been browsing the gaming information and posting in the FFXI general for a year or so.

And I didn't buy premium until I had been posting in the OOT for a good while.
