Hello.
For karma, I'm just confused about the whole system and I haven't found an explanation to it anywhere. If there is such a page, I'd appreciate it if I could have the link. :)

And for moderators, or Admins. I don't know which. Do you people actually ban members? Or give warnings or such? I know of a few that I regularly see in disputes on threads, one being most recent and still active. I just wondered if such things were controlled or monitored.

Thanks, keep up the good work on these great forums!

Oh, you linked to the one that has that lengthy post that I made which I'm still proud of.

Yes, hopefully that should answer your questions.

    Same thing really

Do you people actually ban members?
Occasionally, usually for spamming, or things like that

    Or give warnings or such?
Yes, depending on what is being done. usually only for Karma camping, sockpuppetry, thins like that.

I know of a few that I regularly see in disputes on threads, one being most recent and still active.
disagreements we usually only loosly moderate, and the level really depends on which part of the forum you are in. something that will fly in the asylum wouldn't be allowed in one of the WoW server forums

What is sock puppetry? Honestly asking.

The closest I found on dictionary.reference.com was sculpture...

Urbandictionary.com also didn't have it but suggested a range from Sock Gnomes to sock rapists to sockmonsteredness

If you don't mind my asking, how is overall karma calculated?

Every post you have made has it's own score. Your overall karma is just the average of those scores.

Whenever you make a new post it starts off with two ratings equal to whatever your average is at the time of posting.

highRfrequenC is indeed correct. but allow me to expand a bit on that. When you post, what we admins see is this:

    By: detlef
    Scholar

    1605 posts
    Score: Good [3.55]
    detlef: 3.55
    detlef: 3.55

But lets say a few people come along and rate you, like so:

    By: detlef
    Scholar

    1605 posts
    Score: Good [3.62]
    detlef: 3.55
    detlef: 3.55
    Kaolian: 6.00
    Kaolian: 4.00
    Kaolian: 1.00

note that your karma for that post is now 3.62. Your overall base karma, or average of all your posts, is still 3.55 however, since that wasn't enough to move you one way or the other on your total average. If you post again immidiatly after that, you will have another post with again two 3.55 rateings.

Don't worry about that 1.00. I hit you with 3 extra 6.00's to even it out.
