Acceptable avatars?Follow

There's been some confusion in the Asylum lately over what allakhazam.com's stance on avatars is. Is there any sort of official guideline on what makes an unacceptable avatar? Some things are obvious (****, hate speech, attacking another user, etc.), but do you guys have a page up that explains what is and what isn't ok? The best I've gotten is "it has to be PG-rated and work safe", but that's pretty vague and open to interpretation. I know PsychoJester had to change avatars, but I also know that Nobby's bouncy-chested animated gif was considered ok. Is mine acceptable or is it too much? What about PsychoJester's current avatar? I just want to clear up any confusion so that I don't end up breaking some sort of unwritten rule. Could an admin please give me their thoughts on the subject, or even better point me towards a link on the site? Thanks. =)

Here's my take on it. I see that when someone posts an avatar with two females kissing, most of the guys go ga-ga. So in that respect and my willingness for to each his own, Sab's av doesn't bother me. Covering bouncing jugs shouldn't be too offensive, as for showing naked nipples, I say that is a no-no. If you show the merchandise, consider that a no-no. A kiss, HAHA nothing there to worry about.

If I ever have to question one, I usually ask Alla or Illia anyway.

If the avatars are too offensive or you are at work, TURN THEM OFF, that is why we have that option.

There is no official stance, because common sense is applied more than arbitrary rules. If your avatar is designed to insult, revolt, shock or arouse - then chances are you might be asked to change it. If your avatar is tastesully expressing something controversial, no problem here.

(asked to change it often means I just set it to something appropriate)

Two men kissing isn't even controversial, unless they're married, in which case I think it's illegal in the US, unless there's sheep or football involved, or something like that.

I'm hardly an admin, but I find Sabo's avatar tasteful, if not my personal preference.

It's no less offensive than a man and a woman kissing, or (as the good Mistress mentioned) two women kissing as an avatar. It doesn't show them making out- just sharing a kiss. And as I mentioned in another post last night, there will always be homophobes in society. The irony is the same people that scream over two guys kissing are the ones that drool when they see two girls kiss. Double standards should not be set on Allakhazam. If the men kissing go, so should the women.

For the record: 31, straight, married, from Bermuda, and more enlightened than I used to be. I'm not a defender of homosexuality- just of tolerance for people's differences.

Edit: Changed 30 to 31... can't even remember my own age!

Edit #2: If PsiChi can have an avatar of a woman licking a banana (sad, I know), then Sabo's is G-rated by comparison!

Not offensive to me, PsiChi- and yes, it's a perverse mind indeed that finds an attractive woman licking a fruit suggestive. I merely meant to suggest that yours was a little more titilating than Sabo's.

Or perhaps I'm just exhibiting some transferrence of some sort. Sometimes a banana is just a banana.

Edit: I see Sabo changed his avatar- that's kind of a shame. However, seeing Sir Didymus is a nice piece of nostalgia- although I always liked Ludo better! (I grew up on movies like Labyrinth and Legend).
