Momentary lapse of reason.
They also made Nix an admin at one point.
I get this feeling that someone in the head office had lost a few too many screws. Only worse choice would be to make gbaji an admin...
For all of the admins aside from myself, being a forum admin is a secondary role. Most of them were selected based on their ability to be on the site regularily, demonstrated ability to constantly enter new content to said site, and familiarity with the game they were made admin for. Not everyone is able to deal with that transition. The site instantly goes from being a recreational area where you go to interact and maybe let off steam, to being work. For the content manager admins, that means more time entering items into databases and writing things, and less time posting, and when you do post, you tend to have to self edit more. It's not just that irritated and outraged users can and do send nastygrams to your bosses (people get cranky when they get banned or yelled at apperently) but you also have to begin to self regulate your own action when someone annoys you on the forum. Absolute power corrupts absolutly and all or something along those lines. Some people find they can't handle it. None of us gets paid enough for the hours we put in, and that can start to generate a sense of resentment. Then you get game expansion launches, where people start expecting all of the new items catelogued on day one, etc. Lots of inconsistant stress factors, and very little oversight in some cases until it is too late. It certanly changes your perspective, thats for sure, and you really can never go back. Sometimes the personality types that make the best content managers make the worst forum admins.
Other times we just like to hire crazy people to ***** with everyone's brains.
hehe Kao... never confuse my posts for anything remotely serious.
I've been a forum admin previously a few places, and yes, it does change how you handle things. You know my posting habits well, having seen me here. You'd think someone else used my username on the forums I admin'd. There were no massive posting tears, no snap decisions. I would have actually been viewed as a harsher admin than any on this site, to be honest. I was hard but fair. People didn't like me lots for that, because I was "killing the lulz", but forums need a sense of order, or users bail.
Usagi and Nixnot were actually excellent choices from the community. It would not seem that way when you see how they post, but they were both very aware of what the forums were, where the lines were, and how to handle problem users on the forum. And yes, they did very well in their time. And yes, being an admin is thankless. Very few admins are well liked, fewer still widely respected. It's impressive Zam actually sports so many admins that are, in fact, well liked.
