this program is 100% safe, it will consume CPU time and from time to time suck up some bandwidth to transmit and download more data for your computer to crunch.
if you are really worried about viruses and what not, then run it under Linux or OSx instead of Windows. under any of the OSs if you are supper parinoid then run it as a user not as an administrator and be sure to run a virus scanner on it before you install it.
most AV programs allow for a right click, scan with XYZ for viruses.
if the AV program you are using does not have that option then check out
AVG it is a great and powerful AV program that is 100% free.
the worst that will happen is if you install the application and forget it is running and then try to raid in WoW or some other massive system intensive application you might cause the system to hard lock forcing a manual reboot. that is not good for the OS, but can be avoided.
