My friday night shift is usually spent cleaning up from the chaos of the week, and getting projects entered into the computers, and start running some of the larger ones. Right about now, 2am, is usually the time when I've finished getting all the random crap sorted out, then I decide to tackle the email inbox.

On a bad week, there is around 20 emails, and they're all puzzles, because there is always missing customer information or they're missing files or, my favorite, the entire email is "Here you go! <attachment> <attachment> <attachment>"

So, I just opened the inbox... I should have realized it was bad news when it took nearly 5 minutes to load the titles. I have, get this, 376 messages. Some have been looked at, some have not. The earliest email I have is from monday afternoon.

Well... I'm going to get into trouble for this, but now in our email boxes, there is one titled "Crap I should not have to deal with" and I just crammed anything earlier than noon today into it.

Goddamnit I hate this place.

I should do that at work.
We have a general "Helpdesk" email account that everyone has access to, but there's only one dayshift tech who reads it. I read it at night, but if the email is timestamped before my shift, I generally won't mess with it.


Sometimes I get calls where people think I magically already know what they're talking about because they called earlier. They'll call and say "This is so and so" and I'm like, "Hi" and then they're like "So, did you figure it out?" or something like that.
Yes, we at the helpdesk have a collective consciousness. You can tell one tech about your problem, and automatically the rest of us know about it. It drives the dayshift techs crazy when they're trying to sleep, and I'm walking someone through READING A GODDAMNED EMAIL AND FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS.

No I'm pretty sure you spelt **** ****, which would in fact be replacing letters with numbers.

Someone has been going through and trolling down entire threads lately. Fixed this thread.

That's the really sad thing, on average, I get 3 spam emails a night. And they're not even spam when they get to me, our servers check every email that comes in, and if it's questionable, they send an email to our inbox titled "Quarantine Notification XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX."

There were only 5 of those in the inbox when I clocked in yesterday.

Emails have nads?




On a side note, today at work, the entire folder I created is empty, and there are zero emails in the inbox. Also, there are two jobs due by 10am, and I've already got them about 90% completed.

Squeaky wheel gets the grease I guess.
