So true. I just found your sig and movie release this year kind of odd occurrence. Not many people quote musicals in their sigs.

Todd was actually the first stage musical I ever saw, when I was around 12 years old (I think I might have seen L'il Abner in a high school production a couple years before, but this was the first non-school production of a show I saw.) It pretty much insured I would be a theatre geek for life, and last year I got the DVD of the PBS version starring George Hearn and Angela Lansbury from Netflix for ***** and giggles and reminded myself just how delightfully gruesome and dark the show is.

I've been following the Burton project since I learned of it a few months ago (I even made a post mentioning it in the Asylum. It could be brilliant, it could be a disaster--it all hinges on the voices.

lol My first stage musical I ever saw was the Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance." But I don't think this one will ever get to film besides the 80s version called "The Pirate Movie."

Too me, musicals are the hardest movies to convert into films. So many failed but that ones that don't shine and lived through ages. I am hoping that this version will be like the latter. But, in essence, it all depends on the voices and truthfully, I don't know if any of the stars have any singing background. Perhaps I will do a little research and see.

As for The Asylum post. Sorry I missed it but I don't post there, just lurk once in awhile. Sometimes, those Asylum people scare me.

Out of curiosity, but is it carved in stone that the actors will actually do their own singing? In most films, they get dubbed by real singers. I haven't heard anything about Burton's Sweeny Todd, so I don't know if they really expect Depp to sing.

And I'm also waiting for the release of Thundarr the Barbarian. I heard Liv Tyler may play Princess Ariel.

In the hey-day of movie musicals a few decades ago, dubbing was all the rage--it was pretty much its own art form. But these days it's considered pretty cheesy. None of the recent rash of movie musicals, starting with Evita has had dubbed voices.

Burton and others associated with the project have said numerous times that there won't be any dubbing. All the actors will sing their parts (and for God's sake, NO, Sacha Baron Cohen WILL NOT be rapping Pirelli's part! It's a false rumor started by a tabloid.)

Unfortunately, that movie has been permanently marred for me by the parody they did of "Somewhere That's Green" on Family Guy with the old pervert man and Chris.

*shudder*

I do want to see 300. I think it looks decent but since NIN is in the soundtrack that is reason enough for me to see it once.

Aside from the obvious Comic Book Movies and Transformers movie, the one movie I'm really anticipating is Rambo IV. But I see it was pushed to 2008. Last I saw it said 2007... oh well.

I'm looking forward to Ghost Rider personally. Although I am disappointed they're going straight after Blackheart rather than Darkwatch or even Blackout. If they made a movie based on the entire Rise of the Midnight Sons (he and others fight Lilith) miniseries I would pay $100 just to see it.

The next chapter finds Rambo recruited by a group of Christian human rights missionaries to protect them against pirates
I read that far in the plot summary for Rambo IV and burst out laughing so loud, my secretary thought I was having a seizure.

LOL Ya, That description is pretty whacked. The best listing I saw said it was about a series of kidnappings which included Rambo's own Daughter. Then an organized party of mostly younger soldiers with modern equipment goes out after them. When their equipment fails Rambo steps up and puts them all to shame, especially since he's an old fart now.

300 looks fucking sweet! I'm a huge miller fan. I really enjoyed sin city. However this looks much much sweeter. I loved every piece of eye candy the trailers showed. It looks like they went way above the call of duty in production... that makes it that much more sweeter.

Miller always seems to be underrated. He deserves way more props.

Transformers is iffy... didn't they change Bumble Bee into a camaro? If so it just lost the credibility of the original. Spielberg is a guy who either hits the bullseye or is a mile away. And when he changes stuff movies turn to pure crap... *Cough" A.I. He is the most powerful person in Hollywood. So I won't be surprised if anything else changes.

Now if someone would turn Neil Gaiman's The Sandman into a movie. A really F'd up one with tons of imagery that distorts and tells stories within itself. I would hope Chris Cunningham to direct it. He can make ugly, beautiful, and project imagery that isn't in the norm.

I'm waiting on Pathfinder to come out... the only other movie I want to see is The Good Shepherd, which is already out; unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to go watch it.
