OK when it comes to East Vs. West, hands down east coast, not only by good music and creativty, but also by numbers of great groups. East coast has so much more to offer than west. west is mostly old school which isnt bad, but i am more of a new school kinda guy, the east coast has D-12, G-unit, DTP, def jam, rockafella, RR(ruff ryders), and many more great record labels that easily blo the west coast's rappers away. I also love mid-west rap, Nelly and the ST. lunatics are awsome as well as chingy and lil flip(not sure if he is mid or dirty souf) well thats my opinion, hope u guys realize that it is the right one lol

if you do not know these names and claim to listen to hip-hop/rap

you are a fool - you listen to pop music that pretends to be rap

mtv mainstream does not count as hiphop - sorry but its the truth

i think that the east coast has more of the better lyricists hands down. sure you can name the more mainstream rappers... jay-z, nas, biggie. (yes biggie can flo better the 2-pac, but as far as substance pac blows him away.)

but what about talib kweli, mos def, and krs-one. just cause you aint on mtv all the time, doesnt mean you arent one of the best.

as far as west coast rap is concerned. that **** has melody. yeah you can name all the gangster rappers that came out in the 80's: dre, snoop, easy-e. all great. what about the newer groups like: jurassic 5, black eyed peas, dilated peoples.

up and coming rapper, that is going to be around for a long time: kanye west.

pimptasticness: gotta be ice-t!!! yes ice-t... because he is the only rapper that was an actual pimp before rapping.

EDIT: to raise... kool keith is the ****!!

Hell yeah gldnboy, good points. Kool Keith is mad. Dialated is great. Saw KRS ONE in Lawrence KA last fall, it was a decent show. Wu Tang is prob my fav. Don't forget Company Flow, Q-Tip, Black Star (Mos & Talieb), Dead Prez, Deltron 3030, Big L, and, of course, the B-Boys. Just for the record, I think OutKast is making decent music. If anyone is interested try any of the Lyricist Lounge CDs and DJ Shadow-Diminishing Returns. Diminishing was aired on the BBC as an uncut 2 hour mix. Its pretty good. Old School Hip Hop and 60s Psychodelic Rock.

Don't forget about The Grouch, along with the Living Legends, and Blackalicious! (I think thats spelt right). Thats west coast Hip Hop. Yea, hip hop :p Haven't called it rap since Dr.Dre's first Cronic album, rap is so 1990's.

in my personal opinion, you can't spell CRAP without RAP. However, being that I'm from the Detroit area, you're issued a rap album at birth, so I would have to say... what ever has a discernable beat to it?

...the guy who decided to put Gay-Z's Black Album lyrics over The Beatle's White Album music needs to skinned alive, rolled in salt, bathed in vinegar, then thrown into a fire ant colony. Maybe then he'll think twice before defiling such great masterpieces as The Beatles.

I have found the Anointed one, the search for a new gawd is over!
