Anybody recommend a cool running power supply? The one I have now isn't that old, its maybe 3 years old. I bought it from a local PC store its duel fan. When I try to play a newer high end game (Bioshock Infinite and Star Wars TOR come to mind) my computer room is literally to hot to sit in. Also it has a hint of burnt electronic smell. I have never gotten any error messages about overheating but its unbearable to be around. I have a mid tower case and there are several fans in there and I have kept it really clean. Only thing I can think of is to get a cooler running power supply as that seems to be where the heat (and thus the smell) are coming from. Tried doing some google searches and mainly came up with 5+ year old threads.

When it comes to power supplies, the higher the efficiency of the unit, the less heat it will generate. Most of that heat is likely coming from your processor and your CPU though. A higher efficiency power supply will put out less heat when it's at idle, but when you are gaming it's still going to get very hot. Enermax power supplies are expensive, but are the best ones on the market still, and what I use in my gaming PC's
You might want to post your computer specification here and we can see what you have in it. Newer processors and video cards tend to give you much more horsepower with less electricity usage and heat output. might be worth looking at an upgrade there as well. You also may want to consider an air conditioning unit of some sort.

I should have given more specs. It is a custom built PC, here is what I got:
Windows 7 64-bit
a10-5800 apu 3.8 ghz
12 gig ram
geforce gtx 460 se
I have the bundled heatsink/fan for the cpu and I did put the white goopy thermal compound on it.
The motherboard is a Gigabye Ultra-durable f2a85xm-d3h.
I also have a card with double fans under the video card that blows air directly on the video card.
When i am doing simple tasks such as browsing the internet or playing simple games (Minecraft, Terraria, Multiple instances of EQ1, etc) I have no issues. ITs just on graphic intensive games it becomes unbareable. Even with Bioshock Infinite it got warm in here but there was no smell. But recently trying to play Star Wars TOR I can't play the game because it just smells like burning plasic/electronics in here.

I did a bit of googling and it looks like some of the A10-5800k chips like to run a bit hot but it didn't seem to be that common of a problem. I would run Hwmonitor in the background while playing a game and see what your temps are maxing at. Also keep an eye on the GTX460s temp as it seems that the card likes to have some problems with heat.
Lastly like Kao said, higher efficient PSU's = lower heat. So something like a 80 bronze would on average run hotter than an 80 gold power supply, but I don't think it would make much of a difference.
