Thats not a bad laptop, and the price is actuallty decent for the model. He'll want to get a 9 cell battery rather than the 6 cell if he plans on watching entire movies while unplugged, everything else should work fine. the build quality on the aspire units tends to be low. $200 more ($500 total) towards a better laptop would be money well spent in my oppinion though.

I tend to like the Dell laptops, but Toshiba also makes nice units. The problem is that most of the new dell laptops are shipping with windows 8 installed, which sucks. That being said, most of the $500 models I was just looking at have equivelent specifications at the moment with a few minor exceptions, so never mind heh.
