ASUS G60 ~ Burning up?Follow

Hey guys, I am in need of some advice on what I should do. I bought my ASUS G60 Laptop a little over a year ago from Best Buy. Up until about 2 or 3 weeks ago, it had been running FFXIV flawlessly (since launch). All of a sudden one day while playing the game it just flat out died on me as if it lost power or something. I figured maybe it overheated so I left it off for the rest of the day to give it a break. It started up just fine the following morning and I was able to continue playing for about a week with no problems at all. Now my problem is back but its doing the same thing about 30 min to an hour into playing the game (this only happens while playing FF). I have a laptop cooler under it and its in an open space so if its overheating I don't think there's anything else I can do to make it better.

Like I said before, it runs fine while not playing the game. Should I pay to have someone look at it or do you think its just been overworked and needs to be "retired" to web browsing and not so demanding programs? I hate to spend the money on a new rig because my laptop was running the game perfectly for 7 months straight but I also don't want to risk "killing" it by repeatedly having it die while trying to run the game.

When is the last time you cleaned it? My first guess is you are tripping the internal temperature probe and it is shutting down as a safety measure.

Its never been cleaned so that's a possibility. I've never messed with a laptop before, do I just buy some compressed air and blow it through the vents or do I need to take it apart and do it with everything exposed?

I haven't really looked at an ASUS G60 so some of this may not be right. My old laptop had ***** on covers over the video card and cpu. I would take those off and blast air to clean them up. It also had some other ***** on covers over air intakes to allow for cleaning. I would take those off and blast them clean.

Does anyone else own a G60, and know where to clean them?

Alright, I'll give it a shot tonight and see if I have any luck. If that doesn't keep it from "dying" on me, what do you think might be wrong? Is it possible that it got overheated and something was damaged in the process? I really don't have the money to build a tower but I also don't think I can do without FFXIV lol.

Many thanks Nyopo...I cracked it open and blew out a piece of dust/cat hair blocking my air flow on my fan. Not only is it running fine with no shut downs but my fan hasn't kicked into high gear once after playing for 3 hours straight (usually comes on about 5 min after starting the game).

Unfortunately there is always a chance that something has been damaged by overheating and shutting down. At work we intentionally run things hotter than normal to have them break sooner. It is an industry standard to try and figure out MTBF. Most likely all it did was shorten the lifespan of the laptop.
