Just an idea i've been kicking around, would people be interested at all in seeing a sticky with 3 or 4 computer build lists in it? A "high end supercomputer" build, a "mid range gaming machine" maybe one for Intel and AMD, and an "entry level gaming PC with room for future upgrades" Each build would be a post inside the sticky, and they would in theory get updated every few months. The intent would be that someone looking for a computer build could go to that sticky post, see a list of working hardware to use as a starting point, and then go from there. I just want to see if there is enough interest in such a list to see if it is worthwile before I make it.

Personally I wouldn't, even though I voted yes. I would just discuss things with you in a PM. I think however it's a good idea for the forum at large.

Personally, I wouldn't utilize it either. While discussion might be interesting, my opinion is more that redirecting people to sites/forums more dedicated to the topic would probably be better.
Perhaps a sticky with information directly relevant to games encompassed by the site (such as when FFXI has had issues with certain cards) would be better. Or even just a basic sticky on why building is the better idea, etc. Things that maybe wouldn't change so much.
My concern with it is that in order to have a really up-to-date guide you'd almost need a little hardware blog here, and there are just enough of those elsewhere that it's not necessary.

I don't know if a build guide would be used or not. Personally, I'll build my own. What I would use is a component comparison with products at a specific price/performance point.

Four months ago I would have said yes. It's a bit late now though.
It'd be nice to keep up on the newer comp parts. Plus I'm still looking to build in the future.

I thought I posted in here but yes, I'd like to see one since I plan on building a new PC this summer and while I know how to put it together and have some basic knowledge of the parts I don't know enough to get the most bang out of my bucks.
I'd like to see a EU list as well since PC parts tend to be a hell of a lot more expensive over here.

I think the main problem you run into is deals, When Toms hardware does their cheap gaming pc builds, if you price em out a month or 2 later you will come to a higher price likely. I've seen and built 400 dollar pcs (minus monitor of course) that at normal full price you would be looking at 600-1000 in parts, it's all about finding the right deals and prices of the moment and hoping you hit that sweet spot when all the deals match up.
Overall Its not a bad idea, maybe toss in a section with low/mid/high end brands little reviews, brands to stay away from. I don't know looks interesting at a glance but a logistical nightmare at worst.
I'm hoping if job market turns up a bit here that this summer/fall to be building a new tower myself but I usually watch trends and reviews like a hawk around that time and build piece by piece over a month or 2 to keep it cheap (unless of coarse it's a commissioned friends build, then I build a few different pcs and let them choose the one they want, after 3 hours or explanations.

Ha! I knew there was at least one good thing about America.
mmo-champion has a good list in their stickies (not EU prices, though the computer forums are helpful for EU sources if you ask).

bit-tech does a monthly recommendation list, like this one for March.
But since the website is based in the UK, all of the prices are listed in pounds. Though I'm not entirely sure how prices might differ between the UK and the Netherlands.
