Can I go back to windows xp from ubuntu?Follow

I've got a netbook that I installed ubuntu on, and after a few months I've decided I'd rather go back to using Windows XP, since I really don't know anything about programming or coding, etc. I've tried google searching, but haven't managed to find anything. I still have the product key on the back of the machine, so it should be all legal and everything.

It's a netbook, there is no CD-ROM drive. The best I can do is maybe put the software for XP on a flash drive or my external hard drive and try to boot it up from there, I just wasn't sure if it would work or where I can go to download a straight up copy of XP, not an upgrade.

You don't need to be a programmer to use Linux. That being said, you would probably need to use your backup discs that should have come with the computer, but probably did not. The netbook manufacturer should be able to send you some, and you would still need to get an external drive to read the disc(s).

have you tried pressing Alt-F10 while booting?

I have tried Alt + F10, repeatedly. Either I'm not pressing the buttons fast enough, or just right, or it doesn't work now that I have installed ubuntu. My roommate (who is a ruby programmer and was the one to talk me into installing ubuntu in the first place) said that restoring the factory settings would be impossible now since windows has been over-written by ubuntu. If this is true, it would certainly explain why I haven't been able to get Alt + F10 to work.

I'd suggest just keeping Ubuntu. For a netbook which can't game, I don't see the benefit of having Windows.

That and I primarily use it for school. I own a legit copy of Microsoft Office for Students 2007, which comes with a nifty program called OneNote. I really like this program and I haven't been able to find anything comparable to it in the Ubuntu software network or whatever it's called. The program my roommate suggested seems like a glorified version of notepad to be honest.
