My trusty netbook froze up suddenly this morning. Thinking nothing was too out of the ordinary, I rebooted it and let it run a CHKDISK. Everything came up clean.
The freezing has continued, and now it won't even get past the XP boot screen. I have nothing terribly important on it that isn't backed up elsewhere (thank you Dropbox), so I decided to nuke it and reinstall Windows. Well, I can't even do that - it has a critical stop during the Windows installation process.
Gonna run MemTest86, and then as a last ditch effort try installing Linux, but I seriously think something in the internal SSD has gone half-baked.
Anyone have any experience with similar issues? This is quite annoying.
Edit: A clean Ubuntu installation has solved the problem. I guess the XP install had gotten so decrepit that there was nothing to do at all but restart from scratch.
