GT 240 glitches and crashing in FFXIVFollow

Hi, all.

I know the GT 240 is not the gold standard for GPUs, but it does have the raw power to run FFXIV moderately well on standard settings. The problem is, around Gradiana (and sometimes in Limsa Lominsa, though not as bad) the graphics start to look like you're having a bad acid trip after about five to thirty minutes and then it will crash. After doing some Googling, it seems like this is a common issue that has nothing to do with overheating, FFXIV graphics settings, or overclocking (which mine isn't OC'd anyway). The general consensus is that it's a problem with the driver, but the issue persists whether it's the most updated revision or not.

There is also an issue with it crashing if you try to alt-tab out of fullscreen mode.

The first problem is obviously the most severe one. It makes travelling around Gradiana next to impossible. I have a couple questions for any one kind enough to answer. First, does anyone have any suggestions that we could try to alleviate the problem. Second, who is the best party to appeal to for this compatibility issue: Squeenix or nvidia?

P.S. If you're looking for a budget card to run FFXIV, this card at $60 after rebate would have been a solid choice, but with this issue you should look elsewhere. At this point I'd rather have a 9500 GT.

Occasionally, an Nvidia driver won't fully reinstall correctly. In that case, you can try an uninstall of the driver from add-remove programs, reboot the computer and DOn't let the driver reinstall, have it default to the crappy windows built in driver, then from there purge all Nvidia directories, being sure that your computer doesn't actually have an Nvidia chipset as well before doing so, then purge any remaining nvidia registry keys if you know what you are doing, then reboot. Edit: and then reinstall from the latest driver, or a beta driver if available.

I think you will find you will always have problems with that particular video card to a certain degree though. May want to see if you can find a dirt cheap 9800 GTX+ somewhere in the mean time.
