Edit: Solution is to use config tool in the game's folder to disable ambient occlusion. Problem solved.
Got into the FFXIV beta today, very excited. However, after character creation and the opening cutscene, I have encountered an unfortunate barrier that persists past the first time I am given character control.
So, my problem basically arises whenever I'm *not* in a cutscene. The cutscenes run great, absolutely no complaint here. However, I've heard from a lot of folks in-game that the quality of gameplay is roughly the same as that of the cutscenes. For me, when I get out of any of the cutscenes, the gameplay graphics are rather awful. I'm achieving maybe 10fps and the whole game feels like I'm trying to move/execute commands through molasses. Anybody else having this problem or know of any remedies? Is it just that the cutscenes are far less taxing and I need a better graphics card?
I'm running an GTX-460 768.
